Fao cyclists

I use a couple of these. Actually pretty sturdy. Have to keep the bikes in a tight space so it's useful to have them on wheels.

Love the belt drive. I have a (considerably lower end) Cube Editor which is belt drive but only has internal hub gears. Either way, it's a lovely ride and makes you wonder why they aren't more popular.
Cost, frame availability, added weight - they're a bit of a niche product. Traditional derailleur shifting is pretty damn good nowadays too. Some people are dead set against the grip shift as well even though it works well, the newer electronic shifting has fixed that though.

There's a big push for downhill teams to use pinion gearboxes and belts this year and a few big teams will be using them, hopefully that'll give them a bit more exposure.

I appreciate that it's not a direct comparison but it's just a more pleasant experience for general cycling.
Quiet, clean, next to no maintenance and as my Cube is only 21 lb, not necessarily heavy.
I think if more people tried them there would be a big uptake. By all accounts, they're quite popular on the continent.

Yeah for commuter bikes they make all sorts of sense.

I went with gearbox/belt/titianium frame for the ultimate winter bike, I was fed up with spending half an hour after every winter ride cleaning my bike, and hearing the drivetrain eating itself in gritty mud! No drivetrain to clean, no gears to get gunked up, the frame can get scratched through winter mud and you just rub it down with a scourer and it looks like new (my other bike is a raw alloy frame so the same). Basically, I can ride in this and after the ride just hang it up in the garage without touching it and it's good to go for the next ride!!
