fault code 16056

Hi all,

I've had a flashing orange glow plug light for a couple of weeks. And possibly or possibly not related, start stop errors.

Plugging in Carista reveals 16056 fault code, which after googling, seems to relate to an oil pressure sensor.

Hoping to rule out some quick fixes before taking to a garage, I've replaced the brown High pressure oil pressure sensor. But the code returned after clearing. So thinking the low pressure (green?) sensor would be next on the list? Can any tell / show me where this is as struggling to locate it? And are there any other things to consider trying?

(Completely appreciate it could be one of very many things, but I'm willing to take a punt on replacing a few "common" things in case it works - worst case I will learn a bit about the van and it might save me having to pay a garage to rule the same things out).

Morning Richie, just wondering how you got on with your problem ? I've developed the same issues ( stop/start , oil pressure sensor code) I've had the battery on charge which seems to solve the stop/start and changed the front pressure sensor but still getting the error code and flashing coil warning!!! I've decided to change the 2nd Oil sensor at the back of the engine but as you said I can't find it either so any guidance as to where it is would be appreciated.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? My van started showing this code and some egr related ones. Had the egr replaced, now this one still shows from a cold start.. garage which replaced the egr are helpful, but weird these errors all appeared at the same time..

Hi .have had this fault for a few months now. When engine run from cold , glow plug light starts flashing and goes into limp mode. Won't rev past 2800 rpm. Van still drives OK. As soon as engine temp reaches approx 70 degrees I can clear fault and it doesn't return.
If fault is cleared before engine is warm then light comes back on.

Have had oil pressure checked and another new oil filter but fault still there.
Any pointers would be appreciated.

Forgot to mention it's a vw t6 2017 150bhp highline 6 speed manual.

Has the connector and wiring been checked on the oil pressure sensor plug? Oil pressure might be a red herring see;

Flashing Coil Light and Limp Mode [Resolved]

Is the sensor and wiring accessible?
If so could check myself.
Have seen other posts of similar problems.
Just seems odd that fault only happening when engine cold....

Did you sort this? I started off with fault below now had strainer in sump cleaned new oil and filter new sensor and still the same error code! Any help appreciate.

Hi Everyone
I am new to the forum. I have 67 plate caravelle with the 204bhp engine with automatic gearbox.

The coil light is flashing and the local VW specialist has put it on the computer and identified the fault coming from the oil pressure sensor on the oil pump. They have told me that is in the sump. They have ordered a new sensor to start with from TPS and they said next day delivery. Then they said 10 working days and now 5 weeks later we keep getting told next week.

VW have told us not to drive the vehicle due to fault and I have now been without a car for 6 weeks!

Has someone had a similar problem and where do you think the fault might be? I am aware the new sensor if it arrives soon may only give the same fault reading!

Could I drop the belly pan and loo for a leak? There is nothing obvious and no oil on drive the vehicle is not loosing oil and had s full service June last year and has only done 30K miles.

Any help appreciated as I am now pulling my hair out!

The first thing to do is to get that sensor replaced. It would be worth getting the part number from the garage and doing a search for it yourself.
The garage is right about not driving it, as the root cause could be much more serious than just a sensor.

Has a gauge been fitted to actually check the true oil pressure?
What was the material composition of the debris in the strainer?
The strainer is not going to prevent oil pump wear if the oil is contaminated.

I don't think anyone has fitted a pressure gauge to check oil
No idea what was in the strainer.
The vehicle is only 5 years old done 30K last serviced October 22 and done 1800 miles since then.

This week and last had new oil filter and oil change, had the pump checked and strainer replaced. Then the sensor finally arrived after 11 weeks! so got that changed. And still the fault....

The vehicle has a full VW service history from new apart from the last service as we fell out with VW Vindis as they found £2000 worth of work on the vehicle the minute the warranty ran out. I got this independently checked as I was sceptical and out of all the work they suggested only the track rod end was worn and it was still within limit to pass MOT!

I was happy to take it back to VW but they said they could not look at it for 6 weeks and I had to get it towed to them 35miles away as they did not advise driving it. I have already been off the road for 5 weeks at this point!

Spoke direct to VW and they said sorry to hear of the problem but you are out of Warranty and basically not there problem. Book it in for 6 weeks time at Vindis! hopefully they can fix!

I find it hard to believe that a mechanic wouldn’t check the oil pressure with a gauge in the early stages.
I suggest you find another garage / mechanic.
I’ve seen many cases of machinery damage where the assumption has been made that the monitoring systems are the issue. Human nature I guess.

I believe the computer showed the oil pressure when you scan it but I will check with the garage.

Hi Phil.
Yes. It was a faulty oil pressure switch.
There are 2 apparently and it was the one at front of engine.
No problems since changed.
