Fitting a Caddy engine to a Transporter - achievable/ desirable?

My cousin once put a classic 1.9tdi pd in his old Subaru Impreza, why? I don't know, but he's a very clever chap. But that was 10 years ago or more, and both the engine and Scooby were older and simpler than anything around now. He could have bought an Audi Quattro of some sort with that engine, or a diesel Subaru , but he fancied a challenge. To the OP, carry on if it's a technical challenge, but I wouldn't bother if its a genuine need.

If you want the pinnacle of engine swap "because it was a challenge" arrangements then this steam powered Landrover has got to be in the running..

I know it common to fit a scooby engine in older vans but I read about a van that had a tdi pd engine in it and it seems there are kits/engines available to do this for t25/3s.

Would it be worth keeping engine block and bottom half, the caddy is 2017 dfsf code transporter 2021 cxhc or are mountings a big problem, and sell head, is there any other parts to keep if i did this e.g. fuel pump starter alternator, new belt kit and water pump just fitted. Thanks for your advice.
If i buy a caddy needing an engine 2 litre or a 5 speed gearbox from a 2017 caddy how far back will each one fit, I was thinking of buying a 2000 onward or how newer than 2017 will each one fit. Thanks.

I imagine the resale value would be severely reduced even if it was an economical / practical adaptation.
As for insurance you would probably have to find specialist cover unless the whole truth was not divulged and then you’d technically be unisured.
If i change an engine in a vehicle with blown engine why would this be a problem to insurance if it is notified of eng no. and power is same.

Because it’s not standard, it’s modified.

It is not modified, it is just a replacement like for like. Several examples on this forum where vw have changed the engine in transporters, same for a caddy.

I think the original idea was to put a Caddy engine in a Transporter, this then migrated into putting the Caddy engine into a defunct Caddy.

True but your response was to putting a caddy engine into a caddy not the original query of caddy engine into a transporter.

My post #17 was referring to a Transporter, if it isn’t for some reason that’s what was intended.

The idea of fitting caddy engine to transporter was sacked off by dav-tec, I now want to know how far back can i go with DFSF engine or g/box fitting it in caddy or how far forward from 2017. Thank You.
