Flashing coil light start/stop error P164B

Arrrghhhhh!!! So had the oil pressure switch and the oil pressure regulation valve changed. £900 lighter and 1 year later and the exact same fault has started again.

Cold start, coil light on when revs over 3000rpm then limp mode, restart engine when warm and coil light gone. This is a living nightmare. Back to VW specialist for another look......

What sort of driving are you doing? Mine was a blocked DPF as previously said. Have a smoke test done to see if there is any breaks in your pipe work letting air in.

Update: after parting with about £600 to replace the booster pipe, the coil light came on again… so, took it back to the same VW dealer. They told me it was now a hose that had broken on the EGR, so could they please have another £1200 to fix that too! Got it done and could feel the difference immediately. Next day, got into my van to go to work and it wouldn’t turn over! Flat battery, which was diagnosed by the AA as being past its useful life. 2018 - 2024 is not a bad innings, so can’t blame it. Another £200 and it was all good to go. Went on a very long drive the following weekend and had no issues with anything at all. I’m back to feeling good again about deciding to buy my T6. And loving the THQ sequential side repeaters I fitted!

Varied. Bought Carista and forced DPF regeneration, soot level got down low but wasn't that high to start with. That hasn't fixed it, coil light back on. Same fault code for oil pressure switch. Very frustrating

Just had both the high and low pressure oil switches replaced (high pressure was done already a year ago, oil pressure regulation 9 months ago). Solved it for now....

Has anyone solved this. Got the same issue. Had regulator and sensors done and new battery. Still comes on when cold cheers

2 months later and same issue back. Changing the pressure switches fixed it momentarily. But back to square one. So to recap, high and low pressure switches now changed twice, and the oil pressure reg valve. At a loss. Keep shelling out money and no fix in sight

Mate, managed to get coil and engine lights out by changing o2 sensor....put 2 new pressure switches on took it out and reset whilst going olong that sorted that out, I now have a crazy red oil warning telling me to stop "engine pressure low turn of engine" lol this has been going like this for 2 months now. Had all tests on engine pressure done, all fine, had a smoke test done all fine, no leaks anywhere on everything that has oil or fluid in it, it does 450miles a week, average 550 on a tank , runs bang on 90 degrees so fck it, I'm not spending another penny on it, it's going better than ever now....oh and VW told me I needed a new engine after they robbed me of £1200 teling me it was a wiring issue near the engine mount......fkng wnkrs.
good luck fella.

How do you drive yours? Is it a daily driver or once in 2 week.
I use mine every day so short trips is no good. They need long runs and using.
Mine was just blocked, causing gasses just to come back in themselves back in to turbo. After a while turbo failed from the straining.
I had problems for 3 months before found out the real problem. Had new Turbo, DPF removed, EGR delete and remapped. If you are planning on keeping the van and out of warranty that would be my recommendation.
Drives better than ever did. But ask about and get some advice. Not everyone’s recommendation as with the laws but am not going to pay £1600 every time my turbo fails because DPF gets blocked.

Yeah unfortunately it’s a daily. So short trips which isn’t ideal I know. Yeah way out of warranty.

I would take it to a decent local garage, put it on vcds and see what it comes up with. Should have all history on when it last happened.
I know some people don’t like messing with the DPF and EGR. I am never selling mine so that was the best option. As far as MOT I just take it to garage who did the work.
Hopefully it isn’t that and something simple.

I've had it in at a local VW specialist in Bristol. They seem really good to be fair, VeeWee. They have the dealer level diagnostics machine so should be able to tell what the issues are. I've got Carista and forced DPF clean, it wasnt that sooted anyway but this doesnt fix the problem, unless that sensor is not registering correctly.

I'll ask them to take a look at the DPF this time

Its weird the fault is pointing to the oil pressure switch, everytime, why would it do that? Is the oil pressure changed by the DPF?

Also odd that replacing the switches fixes the problem for a few months and then fault comes back on.

The fault I had was a boost pressure fault with the same code.
Took it too various garages and didn’t have a clue. The garage I had the work done knew the problem straight away.

I took it to a VW specialist. Well apparently. They messed me about abit then said it needs an oil pressure test. Getting local garage to do that and see. It’s so annoying as it’s fine after about 10miles or so after ignition off then on. Runs perfectly

Yes, it does seem like a phantom fault, loads of people reporting it and i dont see anyone getting it conclusively fixed. VW specialist now saying need to get sump off and something with the oil pump. I was warned about how unreliable T6s are, learnt my lesson the hard way

*Update* apparently have metal particles have gathered on one of the oil pressure sensors which is why the coil light is coming on. Having complete oil change and flush through to see how that works.

Apparently not had an oil filter change by local garage for say 2 years which is crazy as always get it serviced when needed
