What's the best sound deadening for a Kombi floor?

The roof, sides and wheel arches are all done, and was always planning to do the floor as well. I think the 20s generate a lot of road noise so figured this could be a nice little job for the B/H weekend.

Are folks sticking with a 2mm Dynamat or Silent Coat under the rubber floor, or can you go to the 3mm or 4mm and still get it all down under the standard step and load strip?

I used 2mm, but tbh it didn't seem to make a lot of difference. I'm sure I read something from one of the convertors on here that said they don't bother deadening Kombi floors as the mat is so good anyway?

Just took delivery of my new kombi today, it's noisy. My old van(which will be for sale) was sound proofed, such a difference.

I might just do a 2mm layer - one of those things that's in my head so need to do it.

I heard the same that not many converters do it, but also have seen it done by others. Only one way to find out.

Dont think sound dead the floor will make alot of difference as the rubber kombi floor kills most of the noise its the wheel arches inside and out that will probally make the most difference

The big difference for me was lining the wheel arches from the outside, it really cut down the noise from the rear

Out of interest what did you use and how did you do it?
I Dynamated the outside of the rear arches which did't make much difference which I was half expecting. I planned on adding Dodo Pro Barrier MLV over the top but my vans been in the dealers for the last month. Just wondered how much martial can be fitted between the arch and the plastic liner as this combo is about 10mm thick.

I'm not professional enough to do the outside of the arches, so did the insides with 4mm Silentcoat, then Harrison's Thermoliner then carpet. Seems to have made a fair difference

Seen a photo of the underside of a T6...just painted metal I guess. Anyone sound proofed/part sound proofed from beneath? Could help with resisting corrosion?
Anyone got any views/ideas on this? Could that bitumen based coating do anything....I used it liberally on my Mk2 Escort in the dark ages, but may no longer be available for all I know!

Sorry @Twoguns I've been away for a few days. I used 2 mm Silentcoat after removing the plastic protection and then carpeted the inside.

I have finished SilentCoating the walls and roof of my Kombi but am unsure as to whether to Silent Coat under my foam backed rubber floor mat in the rear. If I do - will the trim around the seat floor brackets, the tie down hitches and the step still sit properly? I’d hate to do it only to find out later that I’ve blundered big time!!!

Yes it will still fit if you are only using strips of sound deadening, I used 2mm silent coat cut into strips and didn’t really make any difference when refitting floor

Hi. I was wondering what product people are using to put under the ply floor? Something that has some insulating properties and sound deadening but also is not too thick! What are peoples thoughts? I've spoken to Sound deadening shop and they have recommended this...
Dodo Pro Van Floor SWB Pack

just seems a little pricey...

I used @kn0bby s build thread as my guide for flooring and insulating. Looking at the Dodo pack, I'd say his solution is more slimline. I'm impressed with the overall result though. My last van had no sound deadening in it and the difference is huge.

Man Vs Van..

Yep. Agreed. Thanks for your opinion. Is the general consensus that sound deadening the floor with a silent coat type material is essential? 12mm ply should hopefully stop some noise right? And maybe a insulating layer of sorts. I do want to get it right without overkilling it. Also need to keep the height down a little as I’m fitting a rib bed with pop top.

Careful with the floor height... I'd say you wouldn't want to go any thicker and I did.. I had to shave height off my units to gett them to fit etc.

Glad the build thread was handy..
