Folding Mirror bent while parked; can I fix or should I go through insurance?

Hey all, my T6 TSI RHS folding wing mirror was damaged while parked in the street, the driver left their details but hasn't responded to my messages. Luckily my neighbours took photos of the rental ZipVan that hit me (I love my neighbours), but I'm concerned about ongoing insurance price increases if I make a claim

Is this an easy DIY fix that could save me money down the road, or should I get the insurer to chase ZipVan?

The plastics are damaged but not smashed, the glass is intact, but the rotating part had flipped backwards and is now bent..

Opinions welcome please!WhatsApp Image 2024-11-02 at 13.38.02 (1).jpegIMG_4590.jpg

Are these electric fold or manual fold? Electric are a “whole unit” fix and therefore expensive.

Insurance is very subjective whether a claim (that they simply pass through to the rental company!) will increase your premium or not!

Thanks @JOG, these are electric fold, but agreed about subjectivity. I mostly feel put out that someone would cause the damage, leave their number, and then choose to try and dodge the responsibility

Recently had a driver hit the rear of my van in the petrol station. I was stationary at the time. Nothing more than a bad scuff but I did claim. LV said it was a 'no fault claim' so should not affect renewal premium....but waiting to see if that is true!

A wing mirror is a relatively straightforward fix, just fiddly! You need to work out what is actually broken as some parts can be replaced. The biggest issue is whether he broke the post.

It is one of those pain in the arse jobs you either want a mate to help you with (for moral support) or give it to a garage to sort for you.

That's half a truth - try having multiple non-fault claims and you'd find that doesn't hold true. Besides which, the cost of ALL claims is, eventually borne by ALL policyholders.
