France Crit’Air vehicle category?

When you say you were already in France before it got to you, assuming they mailed the sticker to your home in the UK, how did you get it in your van for the trip?
We just went without it hoping that if they gave us a ticket we’d have the email to show them. We were only passing through France so didn’t go into any cities and avoided any motorways that we had to pay tolls for

Ah, thanks for clarifying, we hope ours arrives prior to us leaving but we too have emails with confirmation and receipt for proof of purchase if challenged.

I forgot to order mine before le mans so took print out of the order confirmation. Took about 3 weeks to arrive in the post. I read that in certain locations it's a manual enforcement. So driving through a city that requires one should be ok - just don't park up if you can help it. Drove through Rouen without sticker and was fine.

Bearing in mind how little they cost, I decided to get one before a recent trip to France, even though I did not expect to need one given my planned route.
Some built up areas require them all the time. Others apparently bring in the requirement periodically, if air quality deteriorates.
  • Permanent low-emission zones (known as ZCR – Zone à Circulation Restreinte)
  • Temporary emergency low-emissions zones (known as ZPA – Zone de la Protection de l’Air)
My 66 plate van in Euro 6 diesel so is a yellow Crit’Air 2.
RAC has a useful guide:
Decided that it was best to get one for a few Euros (€3.11 + €0.59 postage), just in case, rather than risk the potential of an on the spot fine of between €68 and €135.
Simple process to apply for one on the French government website
Most difficult bit is getting it off the letter when it arrives and fixing it to the windscreen. They are very specific about where it goes. Wrong place is the same as not having one!
So far as I know they don't expire, so made sense to simply get one.

I agree with the above comments - these things are definitely not being moved around once applied...

As I do not like things cluttering up the windscreen when at home I always just stick them onto some clear plastic, e.g. envelope window / document wallet. After cutting around the sticker I slide them into a tax disc holder (remember those?!) and then display/remove when needed.

The above works for me, and I guess it also avoids the potential for MoT failure - since when fitted to the "correct" position on a UK van they can sit within the swept area of the windscreen.

Only realised via this thread that I need to get one of these, heading to France at the end of July and we may need it for Toulouse. Will order it today and hope it arrives in time.

Mmm....the V5 document for my Transporter doesn't show the CO2 emission numbers requested on the CRIT'Air application form.

I just put zero as that's what it said when I checked on the DVLA site.

Application done, it showed up as a CRIT'Air 2 (yellow badge) which is correct for a Euro 6 diesel. So, hopefully all OK.

Yes, that's what I got. I don't remember putting in the emissions. Just engine size I think and euro cat. For everyone else just make sure you get it directly from the French government website. Lots of other 'unofficial' sites come back after a Google search and I think they charge more

I got our crit air sticker when they first came out. Never had to use it or been asked for it in about 8 trips since. There was no way was I sticking the thing on my windscreen, so I cut around it on the backing paper & laminated it.

Just arrived!
Spent ages trying to work out the instructions on the back which didn’t seem to make sense until I realised I was reading the instructions for motorbikes etc without windscreens!

Having trouble ordering off the website.
Complete the form and upload the V5 in pdf, less than 2mb then it comes up with something about retrofit and won't go any further ?

This rings a bell. I found an image compression website via Google and used that I think (sorry I can’t be 100% sure which or where)

Had ours for quite a few years and never been asked for it, it sits alongside vignette stickers. Doesn't bother me being stuck on windscreen and darent peel any of them off as have a crack side to side on screen along bottom.
