I am off to Europe surfing soon travelling from Plymouth-Roscoff and driving down via Hossegor and Bairitz to Peniche/Nazare then back to Spain to watch the world waveski championships at Pantin.Never done anything like this before

Anyone got any good tips or hidden gems we should visit ?

Get yourself a Sanef toll tag and save yourself hours, get a discount with ths url.
Sanef Tolling

I agree with @Loz I have one on my screen and can wizz through the tolls at 30kph whilst everyone else are still sat in the queues. Just make sure you are under 2m high, including any bikes on the back etc.
I have to take the seats off my bikes to fit under the height barriers.
Enjoy.

Just use the far right 30kmh lorry lanes
Wow, I had never thought of that and being a fraction over 2m we were too chicken to chance that lane.
Looks like we will be mixing it with the lorries in September - thanks Loz.

We're currently in Aveiro in Portugal having done the same trip. Get yourself the Vicarious publications "All the aires in France/Spain& Portugal" books, for cheap/free overnight stays for the trip. There's also a RN (route national) that runs from the French channel coast to the Spanish border that largely avoids most of the autoroutes (tolls) we did it towing a 2tonne boat without any problems. There's a campsite in Northern Spain called "Camping las Arenas" that is probably one of the best sites we've ever stayed on, it's west of Santander, near Llanes.
Plenty of small sites in Portugal and cheap with it. Diesel is cheaper in Spain than Portugal, so fill up before crossing the border. Spanish & Portuguese autoroutes are much cheaper than France. In fact, everything in Spain & Portugal is cheaper than France
