Front lower grille LED DRL

Evening, I’ve seen a few Vans with these slim, slitty LED DRL’s in the side grilles beneath the main unit.

Are these a VAG item, HELLA or similar and can they be bought from a main dealer.
seen a few sets in on line auction but not sure of their quality / Lifespan ?
if you have them in yours how easy are they to fit and are they good quality ?

Try this link, you can’t fit the DRL lights on their own, the grill also needs replacing.

I think to fit them you have to remove the front bumper although I could be wrong, I have had my eye on a set since I got Floyd 5 months the ago but still can’t convince myself to pull the trigger as I have OEM LED’s.

I know what your saying, I’ve got OEM LED’s as well, but quite like the look of these in that lower grille section. I wouldn’t mind fitting them myself, using some tiger seal ro bond them in, rather than buying the lower grille with them in just dremell a bit out and bond them in place.

also wondering how long before some one brings out a grille with a light bar across the lower bar as seen on some Golfs now ?

We retro-fitted OEM LED's and these at the same time and really like the way they look. We did replace the grilles as well though. The replacement grilles are different to the original ones as the lights are sort of a wedge shape so the part they fit into is also not straight,not too sure how well you could make the lights fit into the original grilles without quite a bit of work but if you are really handy at things like that then good luck. I actually have a pair of lights and the original grilles off my van that i could probably be persuaded to sell if anyone fancies a set to mess about with

Is the finish on the grilles that come with the DRL’s fitted the same texture as the OEM grilles with the centre section still left in situ or did you replace the lower centre but as well, in the info it says they are gloss black with the DRL’s fitted but mine look textured black, Matt finish ?

The ones i have are the same colour/texture as the originals ie,matte. The gloss black ones you are referring to are to match the other gloss black grilles etc that a lot of people have fitted to their vans.

I have always had my eye on this upgrade (I also have OEM LEDs), but am concerned about my front parking sensors, as I believe the replacement grill panels (that take the LED units) cannot be bought with the parking sensor cut-outs?

Hey Shaun!, you’re right, just checked and my front sensors are right there on the grille, I’ll stick to the original plan and buy just the lamp unit and bond it in with some sikaflex.

done similar before and that stuff bonds like shit to a cat might require something on the rear at each side to help retain the fit and shape.

Looking at these again but having looked at the currents grills on Floyd I have a parking sensor in each of them and all of the after market gloss grills with the DRL’s don’t have the parking sensor holes.

You have to drill the holes in the aftermarket DRL grills to fit the parking sensors? See image with arrow showing where the parking sensor is on the grills on Floyd.

It’s what has put me off up to now as I would also need to drill holes for the parking sensors. It would be nice to know if there is a moulded indent to guide the hole position etc.?
