Frozen front door lock 2024 transporter..

This has happened a few times now, drivers door opens but handle won’t spring back on its own and the catch won’t catch. The door makes a clunk as if it’s closed but it’s free and swings open on its own!

I have read a few older posts about this, anyone had this on a 2024 t6.1 ?

Anyone know how to fix quickly when out?

There was a recall for freezing beldon cables on the T6.1 early days ... Not sure about a 2024 van though

Drive a short distance from home then ring VW Assist and tell them you are stuck and can’t shut the door.

the T6.1 has totally different locking system to the T6,

it was an attempt to improve the setup in the T6,

but the T6.1 locking system comes with its own qwerks

I had exactly this on my 2022 6.1 a couple of weeks ago in really cold weather with thick frost on the door. By the time I’d warmed up the van and cleared the windscreen, with a few superstitious lock/unlock it did finally close.

Yes exactly the same as above, once it thaws out it will re latch, fantastic lock design work by VW, so in cold weather allow an extra half hour before you want to drive off, this does need a proper fix by vw.
Originally it was the 2020 vans having a lock cable recall, and newer vans were done at factory, obviously not, mines 21 plate

I have spoken to the dealer, they want to change the Bowden cable on the lock under warranty. Typical that they knew about this in 2020 and it was an official recall 'risk of injury' and yet it's still a thing in 2024 vans. It's so dangerous, if you don't know it's happened you could drive off and the first time you break bang off goes your door swinging for whatever is in its way.

Good to hear that they are fixing it for you. I just rang VW Trafford Park and they said no outstanding recalls on mine, and bring it in for a diagnostic. I dont fancy that, as it will work fine in the warmth of Trafford Park! I'll follow your example and get some video next time it does it.

So dealer fixed it, replacement Bowden cable under warranty. They said water had got inside it and it was corroded. It may be worth anyone with a T6.1 checking operation of drivers door lock in a frost..
also dealer said they are changing a lot of sliding windows out under warranty. Just checked mine, and yes they are leaking into the van, it’s only 9 months old ..

Is the new window an improved design?

I guess they replace like for like? Its awful, they said they have done one twice under warranty... Im looking at other options, can't live with rotten door panels again, maybe would go for fixed glass both sides so it will never be an issue again.
