Fuel Gauge fault after fitting night-heater

Ok glad it’s not that you must be lucky that you didn’t have to shape the pipe for it to clear the float arm

*****************

fuel2 shows the schematic.

the fuel sender unit has 3 wires.

br/ws - brown/white - chassis earth
vi/sw - purple/black - signal to dash panel J285
vi - purple - 5v refernce

you can see that there is a join in the cable under the front seats (T6b - 6pin red connector)

you should be able to test the sender and wire from that point.

the sensor has a ground and 2 wires that run back direct to the front dash clocks via the red connector block under the front seat.

VCDS should give you a fault code relating to a wire short/open etc or a level sensor - out of range etc?

or just test at the red block for the signal and reference voltage . . . . . or shorts/opens.

there is no fuse as such for the sender unit as its fred directly from the dash clocks (which will have a separate fuse)

the fuel lift pump and relay are fused seperately - but thats a different issue, not yours

the error code we are getting is:
9453074 - Fuel Level Sensor 1

Did you ever get to the bottom of this?

I just fitted an Autoterm (planar) heater and had the same thing. I ran the tank down as I knew I would be dropping it, fitted the heater (as far as I am aware, without damaging anything on the sender), then filled up. Strangely at this point, it worked. Then this morning, it isn’t working. Just showing as empty and range showing ‘- - - -‘.

I had the same issue but it was the float arm snagging on the pipe. pain but had to drop the tank again to modify the pipe to clear the float.seems ok now however the dpf lights now on on the dash because its been showing zero fuel for so long that regent not possible. hopefully it will clear itself in the next day or so

Hmmm. I don’t think mine is that issue as it has shown the tank as full, which would suggest the float arm is high and floating?

I have notice the fuel light is not on either, despite the fuel needle showing empty and the range showing - - - -.

I’m away in the van for a week now, so a) will have to make sure it’s topped up! And b) will have to drop the tank when I get home and make sure the connector is clipped in properly!

my dpf cleared on the way to work thankfully. now just need to get the diesel heater fuel lin bled.

Hello
did this ever get solved I have the same issue
Hi, yes it did. i ended up coiling the pick up pipe around the sender unit to ensure it didnt interfere with the float. all fully functional now. i could drop the tank with my eyes closed now
