Just wanted to add, I also successfully changed the gear oil by refilling through the neutral position sensor, having no filler hole (why VW? WTF?) I'd had a failed driveshaft seal and didn't know how much fluid I'd lost (around 200ml, maybe, as it turned out). No idea why VW would suggest refilling through the reverse position sensor - that'd be a proper pain in the dick given how awkward it is to get to without removing loads of stuff. No need! I used a fluid transfer pump to refill from below by I can't see why it couldn't be done from above with a bit of careful hose fishing.
To remove the neutral position sensor it's an 8mm spline. The hole that is left once the sensor is removed is 15mm diameter. In their tech notes on ERWIN, VW also suggests that it's a two man job - I can't for the life of me see why, it's a piece of piss.
