Glow plug 2 fault

Hi.D

Good morning, everyone.

I’m new to the forum and really need some advice. My T6 went into a VW garage over the Christmas period for a service, MOT, and to address a few issues, including investigating why my management light was on. They informed me it was due to a faulty glow plug (Number 2), which they claimed to have replaced. However, just four days after picking "Beasty" up and driving her normally, the coil light came on while I was driving home from visiting my mother-in-law. I then lost all power, but I managed to drive her back home very carefully and slowly.

I called the RAC, who found 14 faults, including the glow plug Number 2 issue. I contacted the garage, and they insisted that they had replaced the glow plug and suggested that the problem might be due to a low battery. However, with the RAC report and my son showing me the same glow plug Number 2 fault on his diagnostic tool, the garage still refused to acknowledge that they could be mistaken. They would not accept my claim that they were being dishonest, and they claimed they couldn't find any issues during my van's return visit.

I’m looking for ideas or insights from fellow VW owners, as I could use some guidance regarding this situation. Thank you!

On my T-Cross the glow plug No.2 error was the glow plug relay failing not the glow plug itself. It is the second time that it has failed since new - it has only under 5k miles on the clock! Changing the glow plug makes no difference. Suggest this to the garage as they are just stabbing in the dark and not thinking about the error.

Yes, also a faulty glow plug would turn on emission light (yellow engine symbol).

the coil light came on while I was driving
I then lost all power
Unlikely because of the glow plug. Did you get also the emission light (yellow engine symbol)?
Was the coil light steady or flashing?

RAC, who found 14 faults, including the glow plug Number 2 issue.
What were the other 13 faults? At least one of them is tagged to turn on the coil warning light, so actually two of the faults should have the tag - one for coil light and one for the emission light.

Can you check the time stamp of the glow plug fault - just to rule out the it's not the logged old fault - thus garage just forgot to clear the fault memory?

the guide shows the glowplus should read up to 1ohm, direct across the removed plug.

but you can use a multi meter at the relay position to get all 4 plugs and get a comparitive reading.

Test sequence
• Glow plugs removed
– Connect wire of hand-held multimeter - V.A.G 1526D- to glow
plug 1 - V.A.G 1594C- using auxiliary clips from auxiliary
measuring set - Q10- .
– Apply test probe of hand-held multimeter - V.A.G 1526D- to
glow plug 1 - Q10- “earth” and test resistance.
A glow plug with a resistance up to 1 ohm is OK.
– Test glow plug 2 - Q11- , glow plug 3 - Q12- and glow plug 4
- Q13- in succession.
If the specifed value is not reached, the engine glow plugs - Q6-
must be renewed.

I have a brand new control module - I had the same fault but it was actually the glow plug.

Happy to sell at discounted rate - it was £57 IIRC.

got a few pics of it? . .

and where it plugs in?

to add some context.

i might get the meter out and do some testing to get some resistance readings.

for reference, I've got two vans to play with.

Mine (cxgb engine) was in the E Box under the battery…512 top pic is with it removed to test the wires/glow plugs with the meter.

awsome, just need the pin outs now,
I’m sure I found in another thread on the forum. In my pic with relay removed its the column of 4 contacts on the RHS. I got a different resistance reading on the pin for #2 glowplug. I cannot remember which way they are numbered - will be one of the middle two!

Here is the print out from the RAC, not only did the light start flashing, I lost all power, so something isn't right, yes?
