New to the forum so hi to all and I understand this a t6 forum but just looking for some resolution as can't find anything online and it's left me scratching my head. I have 2013 t5.1 102 caab I've recently noticed a strange fault with the van, the van drives fine but when the engines pushed over 3000rpm the glow plug light flashes but no limp mode no power loss no issues at all change gear and as soon as rpm under 3000 its off without turning engine off so thought I would scan with my cheap £1 shop scanner no faults scanned with friends many pounds scanner fault found saying crank shaft sensor cleared the code drove the van came back scanned again and crankshaft sensor on reading but no lights on dash no starting issues no knocks bangs thuds or rattles. Any help be much appreciated

Welcome to the Forum!
fault found saying crank shaft sensor
I'm afraid more data is needed as it can be the sensor itself, wiring, power supply issue, or even something seemingly not related. What's the actual fault code?

Thank you for your responding. Thought I photographed the fault code but can't seem to find will get rescanned again. I'm no mechanic but I'm not sure that the glow plug light flashing over 3000rpm under acceleration would be related to crankshaft sensor don't get me wrong the van runs fine whether it's flashing or not but I don't want it causing me further issues down the line.

Be interesting to see the fault code. I had something similar with my van (T5.1 2015). No loss of power or any running faults but flashing coil light under acceleration over 2000/2300rpm. Mine was diagnosed being crankshaft or camshaft sensor faulty. Turns out when the timing was done 6 months prior the high pressure fuel pump was 1 tooth out on the timing, timing redone and never had an issue since!

This sounds very similar to my issue there's just no issues at all when driving my be worth getting timing checked thanks.

My fault code was P0016, which correlated to crankshaft and camshaft correlation error. When the timing was checked as I said it was the HP fuel pump.

As @mmi suggests definitely post up your fault code as it’s easier to diagnose from there.

P001600 is my code crankshaft-camshaft position correlation bank 1 sensor a
Typically you get this fault when it's high time to replace the cambelt - it is streched causing phase error between crankshaft and camshaft.
When was the cambelt replaced last time - how many miles since?

Booked in with garage I bought the van from we will see what they come up with but we will be scanning the van before bringing the van home on Wednesday. Then the vans got to go back for leaky windows it never rains but It pours.

Hopefully you get it sorted quickly. Please ensure to update after if any others stumble across this with similar problems

Definitely will do, I'm suspecting dealership knows about the issue already because I suggested not driving the van but they insisted it would be just a sensor.

Vans back and it turns out the timming was out slightly they redid the timming no flashing light no fault code no issues thanks to all for responding hope this helps out for any future searches.

Good result. Exactly the same as my van! Had the timing done and it was out by a tooth! Glad it’s sorted and happy journeys from here on in

Yes thanks now just need to wait for camper glass to get the flush sliding windows back in stock as these leaks are killing me then hopefully worry free for a few months no doubt there will be further expenditure in mods a long the way

Hi, I had this same issue recently with the same fault code. My van has been in the garage for nearly a month as warranty company were arguing the toss of labour charge to repair was garage diagnosed as crankshaft sensor giving intermittant signals. They changed it and I have had the van back for 1 week and its started again, flashing glow plug light when under load. Cambelt & water pump was changed prior to my purchase with no issues for the first 7 months.

I would confidently say that your timing is out by 1 or 2 tooth I had this problem took it to vw specialist they diagnosed it in very little time I bought crankshaft sensor thinking surely it was that but no and these are notoriously difficult to get access too. Hope you get it sorted.

Hi @Scarlet7 ,

Sorry to hear about the mechanical woes :(

Having just arranged a warranty for my used van I'd be keen to know which warranty company you use given your pain.
