[GUIDE] Raising the floor height to match OEM rails

Couldnt you trim the Caravelle rear threshold to clear the lashing points? Thats what I would do. the Caravelle trim is much better than the Kombi I had.
I might try it , it’s definitely possible. I’ll have a think first . I could piece a ply disc in and loose the lashing points also but not to keen as it will likely show through the vinyl .

I have been looking to see if there is an aftermarket threshold that’s narrow like the kombi one but deep like the velle !

I fitted a caravelle threshold to my OEM rails raised floor on my T5.1 and kept the lashing points (glad I did - v useful). I just checked and I let the threshold overlap the lashing point plastic surround slightly.

Has been like that for 8 years - although just looking at it just now I might just trim the caravelle threshold to fit now 😂

I also kept the lashing point by the NS sliding door. Also v useful!

Hi @Velosaurus , do you gave a picture ? How does it look !?

Hi, here you are. Both the threshold base and cover do overlap slightly. I am not sure which version it is, it was supplied by Oxford T5 when they fitted the rails. They describe it on the receipt as "VW T5/T6 California rear threshold cover for tailgate,"

Undecided whether to trim or not. I do need to tidy that part up a wee bit as part of the current refresh I am doing.

Fyi my floor comprises of wooden batons glued to the floor, 10ish mm ply screwed to batons and a itec isafe Apex 2mm floor glued on. One thing I have always had a problem with is the tailgate rubber door seal staying on the threshold and threshold base. I see TransporterHq do a replacement rubber seal so might try that and see if there is a way of encouraging it to stay in place.

Thanks for this @Velosaurus , it’s a tricky little corner to deal with . I think I will try and trim my threshold around the lashings . Not much else you can do really. I’m might try and carpet up and over my ply sub floor then trim the carpet flush with the surface before I lay the vinyl .
Good to see yours it does look fine but I imagine the threshold is not sat hard down on the vinyl ?

It is hard on the vinyl except where it sits over the lashing points, which obviously raises it up a bit. What might be worth trying is just trimming the threshold base first and then the threshold that clips into the base will sit more snugly on both the base and lashing point?

Yes good idea , my plywood will need cutting right back also . So if I’m going to commit it’s all or nothing . I won’t be able to go back to a narrow kombi type trim ! I’m not rushing into it just yet !

This is interesting. I have a Reimo on rails and the threshold is below floor surface level. However that Cali step has extra height (visible directly above the hole for the latch) so maybe it will go over my floor more neatly. I might have to splash on something like this

Thats the threshold base held in with screws. This has been in 8 years so at some point in next few weeks will remove and give it a good clean underneath and vax the grubby carpet as well. Excuse the mess - planning additional furniture

@Velosaurus Could you measure the height of the top of the trim from the top of the latch button? That would give me a clue to if it would be deep enough to get over my floor, so I don’t have this extra trim.
Thanks for the ideas!

Its about 18mm from the top edge of the latch hole on the threshold base. Just popped one of the load lashing eyes out and my floor is 34mm high off the van metal floor.

I didnt cut the ply back. I cut and trimmed the unserside of the step and the mounting bit so it sits properly. Now its fitted you cant tell.

Nice , like that idea .

I’m going to try to trim a lashing insert instead as I have 6 spares . Rather than cut the corners off the threshold.
