Halogen - best headlight (not LED)

Put them in 6 yrs ago (crikey) and they haven't failed an MOT since including two at a VW main dealer, no more of an issue than fitting 20" staggered wheels and 35 series tyres or notching bodywork to allow for slammed air suspension but for some reason people seem to have a Trumpian opinion on led lamps in reflector headlights.

Did you get error lights?

Initially lamp out indicated which I think shows in the dipped picture but Novsight then sent foc a separate resistor box to keep the lamp monitoring system happy.

I found some cheap Caravelle H7 headlights in. With Osram NBs. Night and day dipped beam. Main beam abit pointless. For the money defo best “mod” just needed a quick coding with Carista beta.

Struggling to find any Caravelle H7’s and worried might buy the wrong second hand ones that don’t fit or need repairs.

Hence why thinking THQ, also trying to understand what is the best I can get for the money I have.

That is because of tolerances. Philips have licence to produce LED for Reflector lamps but only specific models, so each car is certificated. These particular LED are built to far higher speechification tolerances than normal Osram also has a recognised system. It is not just about maximum light for the user but for safety of other road users also. I posted on this a little while ago.

I bought a new Lotus Elise RaceTech when we first arrived Cyprus in ‘02 and kept it whilst there for just over 10 years. It had projector dipped and reflector main beam lenses.
I never felt the dipped beams were lacking.
It also had ‘driving’ lights in the front grille that came on with main beam.
So never felt short of distance vision, despite never modifying.

I never found out for myself what they were like, as at 6'5" and 20 stone I couldn't fit in the Elise! She eventually traded it in for a Boxster, and then I traded her in for a younger model.

Did the same loop afterwards in my van - could not see a thing especially on the unlit part, had to keep slowing down to make sure I was still on the road or not driving into anything.

So excited to be able to see in the dark.

Could have got it cheaper (a lot) including fitting but they have done me good before, great reputation and great service, and feedback so going for that.

Will feedback on how much better it is for those thinking about it as I was wavering until saw the difference..

Had THQ fitted last week @BognorMotors - went THQ with LED dipped and Nightbreaker full.

Such a difference can see again, so much better visibility and even enjoy might driving again now.

Went down unlit road other night and some kids in dark cloths on edge of road - recon I may not have seen them with my old headlights.
