Now the cam belt interval has extended I wonder if coolant change needs to be considered, as typically, it was done with the pump/cambelt.
I've got this very problem on our 16 plate Passat on 75K. Its mostly affecting the drivers side heater tbh which is annoying as its now getting colder.
Its been in twice now at local VW indies ,first time for coolant pump and second time for a flush etc but the problem still persists. Spent around £350 so far.
I've been quoted around 2k for a new matrix and a pressurised flush but thats an estimate.Time for it to go me finks. Its been a really great car otherwise.

Mine was changed in 2021 with the EGR, so I’ll change in 2026 to retain the corrosion protection.
