HeadUnit Upgrade to work with aftermarket PDC

Thanks for the reply Jason.

So would you recommend I do the firmware update or not?

Where do I stand with Kenwood if it bricks the head unit, surely if they are releasing updates they should honour the repair of the unit if it is within the years guarantee?

Thanks again

P.s I have the dmx8019dabs

I would do it for sure if its buggy.... as my dmx9190dabs was unusable ( with wireless car play ) until I did the update.. it's now acting just as it should have done in the first place.. just make sure to have two USB sticks with the firmware update on it.. just in case .. I still don't know what happened.. but the first USB stick I used seemed to become unreadable after the unit restarted and prepared to finish off the update..

another question that i keep asking myself is do i actually need sat nav ?? when im planning on using iphone and maps.. a lot of the claims of most of these head units is to do with sat nav such as garmin etc.. so to get to the point is there a good upgrade that deals with apple car play, great sound, all the latest tech and nice screen etc but without any sat nav ... maybe im missing something but it seems to me if i have a £1000 plus phone in my car that provides maps and talks to the head unit and displays all on the screen I cannot see why I would be worrying about sat nav.. again sorry if im being dumb
Hi
I think it’s handy to have a built in sat nav as a back up , as sometimes you might not have a phone signal / data to use phone apps, forgot to download any offline maps, or just lost your phone

I download huge areas of Google maps for offline use, mostly because it makes it quicker but yes if you have no data the maps still works no problems

I never do updates unless it’s really needed, Kenwood will honour it if any issues ...

Hi, I've been looking at options for a replacement stereo. I currently have the basic t6 stereo, and the Bluetooth is deactivated at factory annoyingly, but other than that it does the job for me. I especially like the parking sensor display.

Ideally I want android auto, Bluetooth, dab and the parking sensor display, but the priority is the parking sensor integration and Bluetooth. What would you recommend that doesn't break the bank?

Thanks

There's a lot knocking around out there, the main question is do you need the parking sensor display? That could add a few quid on to get the harnesses that allow you to do that

Well, need it? No. But I like it, I often use it to get as close as I can when reversing, so I think I'd miss it

The best bet is the Kenwood dmx8019dab and 8020dab, as they have the direct port on the back for Vw parking sensors, though you still need the correct interface, wireless Apple CarPlay/android auto, capactive screen. Dab,

we can supply all units as a plug and play solution

OK, and when you say the correct interface etc, what do you mean by that?

@Stevee_p.If you know for certain that your current system has got bluetooth but it's disabled, you might find that it can be enabled by either a VW dealer or an independent. If it can be done, the price might seem expensive for what amounts to them pressing a few keys on a laptop but it would probably be a lot less than a new head unit which does the stuff that you want. Personally, I've already decided to go the Kenwood route with Absolute 5 as and when Covid measures permit (assuming that I can get to the right price!).

I did get vw to look at it under warranty, as I thought it was faulty. They spotted on their computers that it was disabled as part of the factory spec which is very frustrating but the van was sold to me as having Bluetooth, so they are covering some of the cost of putting it right.

In that case, I'd be pushing them to pick up the whole cost and not just 'some'. Sounds to me like they misled you in the first place.

Well, they are, but there is a limit, understandably, and so I'm shopping around to see what the best product is. I've seen the travelin lite one that looks nice and is a great price, but wanted to see what else is out there.

Does not have dab, single fm input, T6 has 2, front usb, so will be a hassle to retain the dash mounted one

Apple CarPlay is done by the phone so it’s down to what software you have, if it’s ios 13 then split screen is available

Parts-
DMX 8019dab
Flush fit facia
USB retention kit
Fm aerial adapter
Dab aerial adapter
CanBus adapter
Pioneer reverse camera, we mostly use these as they are 100% reliable, cable length/quality and image depth is superb
£781.75 delivered

If you want to install genuine parking sensors and like them to be displayed on the 8019, then a different CanBus adapter is required add £85.00

Hey mate I know this is from 2019 but do you still offer this?
Thanks, Tyler

Hi guys

Hi guys

I'm having a nightmare in the minefield that is a new head unit!

I currently have a 2017 t6 start line with original head unit and non mfsw.

Looking to move to a head unit that has dab, apple car play and android auto. But would like it to be able to be compatible with a multifunction steering wheel in the future. Also it can't interfere with the pre existing parking sensors!

Looking at this one but seeing it could be a pig to fit and quite costly too... Pioneer SPH-DA160DAB Car Stereo

Does anyone have any other suitable options that won't break the bank!

Thank you!

Should add I'm in South Wales!

I bought one, a Pioneer 250 from Absolute, they sorted the parts for me and I fitted it. No issues.
