Heavy clunk from DSG when disengaging drive

Driveshaft splines worn
Gearbox needs replacing o_O
You can purchase DSG spline sleeve and replace it.
A lot of gearbox repair specialists do this.

Same thing happened to a friend of mine here in Ireland.
Repair cost was €1400 all in(parts, labour and fresh oil)

EDIT:
His van mileage was 163k km at the time of drive shaft failure.
Since the repair he did another 200k km and it still drives absolutely fine.

As said above, the differential side gear is available as a spare part, and all that is needed is the gearbox split to fit it.
If VW had fitted a third CV joint to the transfer shaft, instead of plugging it straight onto the stub shaft or into the DSG diff splines, this whole offside driveshaft issue would never have happened on any of the T5 & T6's. They wear out because there is nothing to take up any misalignment and wobble in the transfer shaft, so the splines slightly move around and gradually wear out. Nearside virtually never fails.

How the van getting on . . . any more forwards?

Yes mate. Had a quote off another garage, negotiated a discount with VW and by the time I paid them for what they've done already and trailered the van to the other garage it would have cost more so I've given VW the go ahead. Gearbox is on back order for two weeks.

Gearbox has come in early, vans all back together, providing it passes an extended road test tomorrow I can have it back. Better start emptying my piggy banks
Awesome, new DSG + DMF? - what about the drive shafts?

gota say the new DMF are not as good as they used to be, I've got new ones on both vans now, . . . and they rattle when cold.

very annoying as they just shouldn't in my opinion.

they must be making them cheaper or something? - and they defo new, you can see through the DSG flywheel window that they are shiny and new.

Near side? or offside? Apart from the stripped splines in the differential side gear, what else broke inside the DSG that warranted a complete new box?
its a VW dealer repair job, as you know they dont repair anything - they just replace for new and warranty for 2years..

I Doubt they even opened up the DSG and looked.
