Hi - New Member New T6.1 Combi for my Doggies

Hi

I am Simon

Just purchased a T6.1 Kombi as a replacement for my Transit Connect - Van is used primarily for taking the dogs out for a walk.

I have 6 St Bernard's so needed more space than the Transit Connect.

My Kombi is the 2.0 TDi 150 Highline DSG.

Optional Extras - LED Headlights - Powered Twin Doors - Tow Bar (Not that I wanted it) - Ravenna Blue - Dual Passenger Seat in Cab.

Have had it around 10 days..

Have removed Rear Seats

Fitted Resin Ply Floor
Fitted Seat Covers and Rubber Mats up Front
Fitted Wheel Arch Covers in Rear and Bumper Protector at back
Had Highline Reversing Camera Fitted (OE and Coded to Head Unit - but Picture Quality not as Good as My Audi?)
Started the Cage fit Out for the dog Transport.

Wind Deflectors and Rubber Flooring to go and need to modify the gages to stop them rattling.... (better hinges and Catches on order)

I walk 2 Dogs at a Time - so leave the rest in the van - while I do my 1 mile walk around the Pond.

Anyone found a way to leave engine running while parked to keep AC on and Lock it to keep it cool and dehumidified??

Likely not possible due to Keyed Ignition and does not look like remote start through the APP.

Thanks.

I am away for work at the minute - hence why the full conversion is not done - but once I get it finished - I will take some of them in the Van

In meanwhile here is some of them I have on my phone.

Group field photo from about a year ago - before latest 2 additions - and some of the pups and Dad and our Bullie too.

Fair play for taking that gang on!!

I think I'd be looking for a 12 volt air conditioning unit, run it from a decent battery and charge it with a DC-DC charger, no need to keep engine running whilst the van is unattended. Lots of benefits to be had by insulating the van and perhaps installing a powered roof vent. I've seen dog trailers do similar with solar panels and air con units.

It must be possible. On the Police BMW X5’s (and I’m sure most other advanced vehicles) we had an ‘engine run’ button.
You could press that then remove the ignition key, lock the vehicle and leave it. It was so the battery wouldn’t go flat with all the lights and gubbins running at a job.
However, I’m not sure I’d like to do that and leave the dogs inside. There were a couple of X5’s that went up in flames and BMW blamed it on leaving the engine ticking over for long periods.

Thanks a bundle @Simon Audi!!

When we met, Mrs Bav had St. Bernards and pics 3 & 4, above, have got her considering the possibility of doing so again - this despite her being highly allergic to dog dander and me being highly averse to all the slobber.

Gotta love a Bernard though. :inlove::inlove::inlove:

Used to be able to leave the ignitoin on and remove keys on my old ex-AA T4. I wonder if newer T models have the same feature?

They sure do shed and slobber a lot..... we change to clean close to go out and then swap over as soon as we come in - because less than 30 seconds with them and your covered in hair and slobber.... but its part of the ownership... you get used to it...

My Transit Connect - just the 1 hour or so is enough on a cold day for the small roof fan to drain battery enough that the van shuts down the Aux sockets to protect itself for starting

There was not enough room in that for a stand alone battery - but for sure the Transporter has more space - I assume if you have a leisure battery it goes under the Passenger Seat?

I did insulate the Transit and it helped - but all the exposed metal pillars and glass still heavilly condensated - windows open at front (1/2") and roof fan running also 2 Aero 360 dehumidifers too.

But its certainly worth looking into on this further with more space.

Plus this has the windows in side doors - so can get more air flow in - just need to find protectors to keep out the rain with them open... not had any luck so far.

THANKS

WOW! Huge house + huge food bills every week I assume!!
Yes - we use 45KG of Biscuit - 10KG tinned meat - 4 KG of Chicken Nuggets and 7 KG of sausage rolls a week...... so their food is more than twice our food bill - if you exclude the other half wine....

Transporter HQ are launching a separate air conditioning unit primarily for camper conversions so might be worth reaching out to them as it may be suitable for you needs

Yes - Also not sure how legal it would be leaving an unattended vehicle running... but also a risk for theft and safety....... think a Second Battery and an AC unit may be better option..... will see how the windows and more open to the front goes for a week or two first...

THANKS
