Hi - New Member New T6.1 Combi for my Doggies

It must be possible. On the Police BMW X5’s (and I’m sure most other advanced vehicles) we had an ‘engine run’ button.
You could press that then remove the ignition key, lock the vehicle and leave it. It was so the battery wouldn’t go flat with all the lights and gubbins running at a job.
However, I’m not sure I’d like to do that and leave the dogs inside. There were a couple of X5’s that went up in flames and BMW blamed it on leaving the engine ticking over for long periods.
We had a run lock system on our dog vans which was a National model conversion of the Mondeo. We left at least one dog in there for hours when duty necessitated it.
The BMW fire issue was something to do with the wrong spec of oil overheating engines. One of our traffic lads had it with his. He and his co-pilot, a lass on attachment, only just got out.

You would think so - but unless you have wrapped yourself in treats - then no chance of them finding you.....
Anyone who's ever tried getting a St. Bernard to play fetch will be familiar with the withering, utterly disinterested look they give you, as if to say "Why on earth have thrown that over there? You're going to have to retrieve that now." :)

Yes - none of them do fetch..... no interest in balls - sticks or water.

They like their walk and some play with the others - but all love a good fuss and hug...

Yes - Also not sure how legal it would be leaving an unattended vehicle running... but also a risk for theft and safety....... think a Second Battery and an AC unit may be better option..... will see how the windows and more open to the front goes for a week or two first...

THANKS
on the ex-AA T4 I had you pressed a button on the dash, removed the keys and left it as you desired. when you pressed the clutch the engine cut out to stop it being stolen. I believe it is an offence to leave it unattended as you see the police sometimes cracking down in winter etc etc

I have done it with our dog in the car, left air con on, parked up and left running and used the other key to manually lock the door and do what I needed to do. Wasnt for long mind and I could see the van from where I was doing what I was doing.

Aye, the 'run lock' feature, allows the engine to keep things charge for running lights and equipment, and on police cwrs radios, ANPR, etc, but prevents some ne'er do well going for a jolly.

It is indeed an offence to quit a motor vehicle on a road unless a person qualified to operate the vehicle is in attendance, ie, inside it.
