Hmm, this could be a problem for ‘Van’ owners

There also a lot of discussion on the lotus forum I read. I don't see how we are affected unless it's for commercial use. I tow my trailer with my race car on over to Europe, and as long as I'm not being paid or rewarded, its ok. I think I may need a sticker on the drivers doors saying "Not for hire or reward", just to be safe.
If you towed a trailer containing a 30 man rigid inflatable boat around Calais the gendarmes wouldn't worry about it, they'd just point you in the direction of the beach.

Sigh. These are the EU rules concerning LGVs going into or out of the EU. If you're, say, a French van driver going between France and Germany this doesn't apply, just like it wouldn't have applied to a British van driver travelling to France if not for Brexit.

Read the earlier posted link, everything you have said here is incorrect. It applies to all LGVs in europe being used commercially, irrespective of country. Specific to your points;

  1. These rules apply across the EU, not specifcally to crossing borders, but does include them by proxy.
  2. A French van will have to comply if it is used commercially bioth inside France and if it drives into Germany or any other EU state.
  3. If Britain remained in the EU we would still have to comply with this rule.
Personally I think it's a good thing, it has massively reduced the number of dabgerous HGVs on the raods across the UK and Europe over the past decades and rolling this down to commercial vans tackles the multitude of 'white vans that are overloaded, carrying dangerous good, un maintained to professional standards, breaking drivers hours rules (I know do not apply for LGVs) that we see on our roads. The fallout of operating outside the O Licence for HGVs is you lose your business, or severly reduce the number of trucks you can run. A level of professionalism that is needed I think.

However bugger all to do with Brexit.

Me if the same people who visited the south west in 2021 come again in 2022. Dig up the M5 at Exeter I say.
Hey! I visited the south west this year, and the amount of parking fees I paid in to the council coffers will be a welcome bonus I'm sure.

That council money probably went on putting Cornish homeless into B&B because they can’t afford to rent anything in Cornwall.

Is that because the parents & grandparents of the current homeless generation, sold off their properties to rich Surrey types for a quick buck?:whistle:

I’m talking about working homeless not surf bums. Royal Cornwall Hospital staff can’t find affordable property to rent because it’s all turning into holiday rentals.

I know & I was probably being over flippant, but the truth is, all the small cottages/houses that would normally pass down the family to the current generation have been sold off to rich city types. It’s not just Cornwall it’s anywhere that’s “nice”. That said, get a couple of miles away from the coast in Kernow & there are some very un gentrified urban areas.
