Horizon Roof Special Offer!

£6k for a SWB? Have they sold any?
When I told them that was too much money for me, they said that if I was only concerned about price then their rooves probably aren't for me.

Then they told me that I needed to look beyond the price and at the quality of the materials.

Then they told me that finance was available which I had a really good laugh at.

I responded by suggesting that patronising prospective customers maybe isn't going to be an effective sales tactic for them.

Genuine question but is the +VAT price just to make it appear cheaper than it is? I imagine fitting companies are getting them for a lot cheaper and nobody is fitting a pop top to a work van. All reeks a bit to me. I've started looking at Stealth roofs.

If the roof is any good there shouldn’t be a need for Special Offers regardless of the true discount. A quality product sells itself.

I’ve had my Vanmax for nearly 3 years. It’s a really stealth roof and has a solid welded metal frame.
For a colour coded roof, scenic coloured canvas, bifold bed board, 6 interior led lights, fitting and carpeting it was £3600.
Probably more expensive now obviously.

I bought my HiLo roof in May last year, though only had it fitted this earlier this year. Albeit mine is a LWB with all the add-ons, it cost me £5.8k.

Given the rampant rate of inflation it doesn't surprise me that a SWB Horizon roof, which is essentially a HiLo roof, is now retailing for £6k.

EDIT: Just checked and, back then, the cost of the SWB roof was the same as the LWB.

Hi Bav, I'm looking at the Horizon roof, It looks great - have you had any problems with it? I've read a couple of posts where owners have mentioned issues but I appreciate there are always going to be the odd one here and there. Just curious - thanks.

No mate - not had any issues with the roof. This year will be our third camping season with it and we love it.

The high lift and the 300kg rating of the bedboard mean that 2 adults can easily sleep up there - there's even enough room to lay with your head towards the rear of the van, which negates the risk of your pillow falling off the bedboard in the middle of the night!

When not deployed, it's ultra-stealthy - only those very familiar with the VW camping scene can tell you have a pop-top fitted - but, when raised, it attracts a lot of attention (probably not helped by us having a bright orange canvas) and you get fellow campers asking questions and wanting to take a closer look. Whether you would appreciate such attention, only you will know. ;)

Ah that’s good to know. I’ve seen that Transporter HQ have started selling them as a third party provider so was thinking that they wouldn’t put their name behind something that wasn’t 100% quality.

I was thinking about the orange canvas myself to go with my Yeti King Crab gear but yeh like you say looks amazing but not so stealthy .

#TeamOrange :inlove:

Don't get me wrong - other campers are usually very polite. The pattern is that people walk past the van a few times, looking but trying not to be seen looking, and then they'll casually strike up a conversation that quickly turns to the roof. It's quite humorous and can be a useful ice-breaker.
