How To: Using Discover Media Navigation System In Non-EU Countries; E.g. Morocco, UK

Thanks but do you think there are another solutions for mib1 ?
You upgrade to mib2 via a retrofitter. What people who aimed to keep their cars did / do when mib2 came out. There are DIY guides on the net if handy but you do need a retrofit mib2 box which is liberated from the licenses which it may have come with. I would give it to a retrofitter fitter to do. Might cost a small fortune thou. Depends how much you value the car. Far to early to think about mib3.

All things being equal mib2 map updates should run to June 2025 which will then be 5 years after Mib3 came in which is the normal VAG map update lifecycle. Mib1 updates have already been stopped as 2015 was the last fitting + 5 years = 2020. Mib2 finished June 2020 which puts us as 2025 for the last map updates if they don't rethink their practices.

There are Chinease Android boxes that are sold to substitute for mib1 / mib2 boxes but I have no idea of how good these are. You will see them advertised by retrofitters on the net.

:eek::cry:

Thank you for all your answers and for your time.

yes.

here are the steps:

Case of a VW tiguan from Feb 2020, (for older units it can work only up to step 6).

1. Download the required Region Map Update. (For example, "Non-European countries - Package 3")

2. Use a VW SD card, as VW SD Cards have a special [CID] card identification code, and normal SD cards cannot be used for browsing data.

3. Erase everything on the card, (Before making a backup of what's on it).

4. Copy and paste the maps folder after unzipping it (do it in Windows because the mac fails something when unzipping, or use a recommended program "see volkswagen page").

5. Use a file explorer to open the 'maps' folder on the SD card. Depending on the map package you have, you will see several numbered folders.

6. Change the name of the corresponding folder of the Region number found inside the 'maps' folder on the SD card to '00'. For example; To use the MRM3 Region SD card to navigate in Morocco, etc., rename the folder '27' to '00'.

7. Copy the OVERALL.NDS file from the original (European) maps folder, which is in the “maps / EEC / EEC_WLD / OVERALL.NDS" path, and subscribe it to the card in the same path.

8. Copy the file OVERALL.NDS from the original maps folder (European), which is in the path “maps / 00 / nds / PRODUCT / E1 / OVERALL.NDS”, and subscribe it to the card in the path “maps / 00 / nds / PRODUCT / XX / OVERALL.NDS ”where XX is the code of the desired region (ME1 in the case of Morocco).

9. Copy the PRODUCT.NDS file from the original (European) maps folder, which is in the "maps / EEC / PRODUCT.NDS" path, and subscribe it to the card in the same path.

10. In the car, restart the Infotainment System by keeping the on / off button pressed for a few seconds, then insert the card and you're done.

A greeting.

Can someone help me with a NAR 2016 golf, I am trying to use ROW maps from VW site.
Any experience of NAR files required on the ROW SD

Hi all.
I brought a T6 Caravelle from South Africa to Scotland.
The Satnav SD card was a Multi Region Map 2, which included South Africa.
I have bought an original VW SD Satnav card from Satnav Direct, with an updated map of Europe.
When it didn't work, I sent it back and the second one doesn't work either
The message both times reads: 'Please insert a data medium with valid navigation data'.
Can anyone please tell me what to do?

Hi all,
I was looking for a similar solution for MIB3. these no longer come with SD cards and the map updates are either online or via USB stick.
the maps seem to have a totally different format. I tried to use the Israel update on my imported EU car but it was of no help.
would appreciate if anyone has experience in MIB3 navigations and could help out

Hello all,

I got a Tiguan 2021 from Germany and shipped it to Egypt.
I have the same problem, that the navigation is not working in Egypt.

Unfortunately, I cannot find a SD card in my car
But what I did is that I downloaded the bundle for Africa and Middle East (which include Egypt), I got a USB-C Stick and unzipped the maps directly in the stick.

This is what I have in my USB stick.

I followed the steps like here: https://app-connect.volkswagen.com/mapupdates/manuals/Discover_Media_Gen.3_November_2020.pdf

But I never got the maps updated. I left my car running for more than 30 mins and I did not get the navigation database update, is there any recommendation how to do it?

Reviving this old thread, I currently live in Israel and had a navigation MIB 2 retrofitted to my car, this unit as said by the seller, only supports US and EU maps, but after seeing the method described above I regained my hope.

What should i do in my situation? Just get a Nav card off Ebay, Change the maps to Israel, change the folder to 00 as in the tutorial and change coding in MIB for Israel maps?

Or does that method only work for OEM Nav units?

Thanks!

I recently bought a japanese imported VW polo in Ireland. My st nav says navigation database not available. I downloaded europe maps to a VW SD card, but still says database unavailable. How do i Update the map. Software version is H29.319.33_HIGH2_JP

Hey guys...
I would like to know if there is the possibility of adding, either officially or better if there is a way to "create" or "add", the maps of a country that is not in any list of VW maps. This is since my country is Bolivia and I can't use the Navigation function in my MIB 2.5 and MIB3 units. Is there any way?
Regards

Hi
Has anyone been able or know a way to add not officially supported maps in vw navigation units? Thank you
