IKEA / Flatpack Furniture ideas - not beds

Anyone fitted any IKEA (or other) furniture - thinking drawers, cupboards, units etc.

Now that I’ve moved my Kombi bench back to the rear row position it is pretty similar to having a full width rock n roll when in the seated position. As the bench seat doesn’t turn into a bed I could also fit some kind of pod or unit behind the drivers seat.

I’m really looking for somewhere to store my EcoFlow and some drawers/cupboards for my tea and coffee, salt and vinegar and mugs etc.

My woodworking/cabinetry skills are horrific.

The Eket modular range looks good - I could fit a 2 drawer unit and a taller cupboard unit behind the driver seat for example…

Nobody?

When you think about it the transporter furniture is exactly the same chipboard just has a gold plated price tag.

Or is it just me?

Here are some alternatives (not just from ikea) to the traditional campervan pod - without the sink/hob…

I built this one myself and if you deduct the price of the Can sink/hob it still cost best part of £300 in bits to build and I still wasn’t happy with the finishing - I ham fisted a few areas.

I might be wrong but I think most campervan specific furniture tends to be ply rather than chip board (mine is anyway). There's probably a good reason for that (ie. chipboard is horrible stuff!).

I would avoid chipboard as it’s heavy, van furniture is normally made of high pressure laminate (HPL) which is pretty much plastic covered corrugated paper or lightweight plywood (poplar).
Chipboard will result in;
1. Added fuel cost over the life of the van.
2. More mass to fly forward in the event of an accident.

Decided to build another pod style cabinet myself similar to the one I posted above that I previously built.

The first van we had, 10+ years ago was a t4. We converted that from a standard / bare van, and built in IKEA units all down one side.

As above they were chipboard and weighed a huge amount (on one side of the van) so wouldn’t be first choice if I was in that position again.

Smaller boxes or storage could still be useful but there’s so much van specific furniture out there now that it’s not worth the messing about in my mind.
