Injector cleaner

I’ve had a read through the threads that popped up after a search but would like your advice guys.
My camper is 2018 102 mapped to 150bhp, 5 speed startline with 49k miles.
The problem I’m having is black smoke on acceleration mainly above 3000rpm.
If I’ve not started in a week or so it will turn over for a while before firing up. Then black smoke.
Once it’s been started once it will fire up fine.
You wouldn’t notice anything wrong driving it normally and it runs great.
It’s only above 3000rpm that is lacking power and blowing smoke.
It’s always had a ticking noise that speeds up with the revs that my T5.1 doesn’t have.
Theres no lights on dash and only thing coming up on a scan is the DPF.
My mechanic thinks it an issue with an injector that’s making the ticking noise and causing a fuelling issue and giving the DPF grief. TBH I can’t ever remember noticing my van doing a regen. When I use the van it will get a blast on a motorway at 70mph. So not always just short journeys.
So he ordered an injector cleaner fuel additive and says to run that with a full tank of fuel.
Has anyone had any experience with these cleaning additives? Or had injector issues?
Is this likely to solve my problems?
Mechanic says to try this first and if it doesn’t work he will test all the injectors and replace any faulty ones.
Any advice or information from other people with a similar problem is appreciated.
Cheers

VW gave me a bottle of this stuff when i had a new engine fitted,

Thanks. mechanic says that that is VW’s procedure.
Use the cleaner before testing the injectors.

I had the same advice when I took mine in for a lumpy tick over. They said it could be an injector and to try the additive first. Put a bottle in 3/4 of a tank, gave her a good run, blew the cobwebs out and astonishingly it worked.

If the DPF is working correctly, you shouldn't get any black smoke, it should all be trapped then burnt off, and the inside of the tailpipe should be clean as a whistle. If smoke is emerging from the tailpipe, either the DPF matrix is cracked, melted or been deliberately hollowed out. This leads to why this has happened- Bad map, faulty injectors? blocked DPF? Turbo oil seal leaking? etc. Lack of power and black smoke points towards something is blocked, or a boost leak ie it's it's not flowing enough air through the engine to burn the fuel being injected.

Just had my dpf back washed and it made such a difference. Flat spots gone and no puffing of smoke or weired sounds from the turbo. It was ment to have been cleaned when i had a new turbo and engine, but obviously just a chemical additive. So easy to remove took 25mins including putting on the 2 poster ramp, but needed new exhaust clamp and v-band as they were rusted.
How often do you put that additive in Dell? Monthly or after every so many miles?

What did it cost to get the DPF cleaned ?

The vw garage said use the vw stuff one every 3 months.

And the redex stuff is cheap enough, so I'm using that every tank for the time being.... In both vans.
.

One redex bottle does 4 tanks worth. So around 1600miles per bottle.

I only paid £120 because I removed it myself and the service was very quick. Dropped it off at 4pm and picked it up 12 the next day. I used dsa automotive and can't fault them. If you can remove yourself it was easier than expected and everything was within reach so you can save yourself a few quid as I think labour time was about 2 hours.

Mechanic said a faulty injector could block up DPF causing the smoke.
Plan is to run the injector cleaner then try a forced regen.
