Yes, you will need an ignition controlled relay to isolate the input when the engine isn't running. If it is a daily driver you will probably get away with it for a while though.

Thanks for the diagram @travelvolts. Could you PM me a price for putting one in, I'm not too good at auto electrics unless I know exactly where I am picking feeds up from.
