Insurance Companies

There are so many variables when they calculate premiums so comparisons really aren't worth much but I renewed mine in June at £340. That was with an agreed value of £38K, 10,000 miles PA, 6 points on the license (Mrs AJ is clean!) and a £4K claim for a crash which happened on 31/12/21. That's with Ageas (thro' JustKampers) in the GL2 postcode area. IIRC, it actually went down very slightly from the previous year but that was based on 6000 miles. As I say, comparisons are pretty meaningless though - as I understand these things, a couple of recent coincidental accidents or crimes in your area might even be enough to influence your premium even though they were nothing to do with you. As the old saying goes, life's a bitch and then you die!
PS - there were no special requirements like trackers, cameras etc. stipulated (but I've got the anyway).

I have been getting quotes for our new camperking varied from £800 down to £500 some asking for tracker or a wheel lock etc
I guess my high cost is down to the first year as well as value location etc ?
Just surprised as my lotus is about £300
It is not just location which influences the premium, although it does make up a chunk of the algorithm.

Cost of replacement parts, your age, obviously licence points & accident record, and the perceived desirability of vehicle to thieves.
Having your spouse/partner on a policy can help, even if they are never going to drive it.

@Ayjay couldn't agree more with people asking how much do you pay question I also got a quote from just kampers May 38k value 7000 miles P/A no points no convictions no accidents DA1 post code BUT parked on street £553 and comfort was £1003

@Bargy62, I forgot to say that the van was parked on the drive. Sometimesand we've sold it (she was WFH during Covid which showed that we could actually co-exist in the house 24/7/365!). So that she could keep up her own 'insurance record', we decided that she should take over insuring my Audi Q5. I can't remember the exact numbers but we were quite surprised to find that her premium was about 35% up on what I was paying. Bearing in mind my 6 points, the fact that she has never ever had any, is an IAM member and just turned 60 compared to my late 60s I would have assumed me to be a much higher risk. I repeat what I said, none of it makes sense!

As @Ayjay and @Bargy62 say, this type of "how much did you pay?" question is pretty fruitless. Concentrate instead on finding the best deal for you in your circumstances. Don't forget (as if you ever could!) that your camper is worth significantly more than the base van it was built upon, so go for an Agreed Value policy where possible. I realise I may be preaching to the converted and that some people may be tired of me banging on about AV, but it's my hobby-horse, so I'll continue to preach anyway. :D

'Currently' insured through A PLan who put me with Markerstudy

I've Just had to claim for a replacement windscreen on a 10 month old T6.1 Sportline. Markerstudy have refused to pay for a genuine VW windscreen even though it would affect the vehicle warranty so I'm having to stump up £450 to pay the extra for a genuine screen. My renewal is due in October so I'll be looking elsewhere

I've posted this on two insurance threads beacuase as you can guess I'm pretty miffed about that.

Markerstudy are way down near the bottom on the Which guide to motor insurance. One of the reasons I moved from Brentacre as a broker.
It doesn’t matter how helpful or friendly the broker is if the underwriter isn’t.

Okay so little update on insurance for anyone who's in London / cities. May help you.

Howden / Brentacre / A Flux wouldn't insure my Kombi unless I had a driveway due to new underwriters. Bit mad.

I've ended up staying with Admiral for my insurance. Costs for illustration for anyone paying mental city rates like myself.

Van last year fully comp 10k miles biz and social - 22 plate highline kombi - £1350.00
Van this year fully comp 10k miles biz and social plus metatrak track / immobiliser - £1380.00

Seeing as everyone else are quoting £2k plus I bit their hand off.

Also combined with home insurance that they chucked in at a good price, again cheaper than anyone else.

At least I don't have a mad uptick in cost so this isn't too much of a stinger. Hopefully next year costs will fall a bit.

My renewal quote on my 16 plate T6 from NFU just received, a small increase on last year with dividend discount applied.

£469

10k miles per annum
£250 voluntary excess
60% NCD
Trailer cover

Just saying….

NFU insured my T6 conversion for £500 a few years ago, then doubled it the next year. So it depends...

NFU wouldn’t quote me due to a city location

Edit - the figure they gave me however before saying underwriters wouldn’t approve due to city was a tidy £2340.00 …….

I did ask the NFU why the increase but no real reason. I got a quote of £300 odd quid from someone reputable so went with that. As a farmer's daughter, I'd have preferred to stay with NFU as they were good but no reason for the increase, so shopped around.

We have used Comfort Insurance for a few years now. 2018 T6 LWB professional conversion, 8k/yr, 6 yrs NCB, just under £400 INCLUDING breakdown. Worth adding Comfort to the list of companies/brokers to try

Disappointing, inconvenient, annoying, frustrating - maybe, but completely logical and not at all mad.

No drive = no designated parking spot = may be parked out of sight of house = higher risk of theft of/from van = doesn't meet new underwriter's appetite for risk.

IIRC, though, Comfort insure campers & motorhomes, but not Kombis & PVs.

Now I've changed to a Cali, I use Comfort and they are great. You have to let them know where the van is tho, if it's off the drive for any length of time.

what was the stated value of the van and rough area, as that will affect the price?
