Insurance Companies

Far be it for me to defend insurers, but the notion that premiums go up every year due to ever-increasing returns for shareholders is laughable. In the UK, PMC/LCV books run on wafer-thin margins, with many barely breaking even and some being subsidised by other lines of business.

I’ve just renewed, from LV, previous policy was £485, this year’s renewal came in at a whopping £845! Shopped around and Just Kampers (Ageas) quoted £540 which seems reasonable given the price hikes!

Boringly predictable question, did you get an Agreed Value with that Sir? Asking for a friend...

Indeed, but these are global organisations providing insurance services worldwide to businesses and individuals across property, casualty, life and pensions. UK PMC/LCV business represents a tiny faction of their business and, as I said, it's a sector that is a notorious for running on very low margins.

Nope not AV, but I’m realistic about the market value.. I need to factor in age, mileage.. should be 200k by next year, existing scuffs and blemishes etc.. I think if my van was under 5yrs and very low mileage and amazing condition I’d certainly get an agreed value..

@Jason Kew if its a camper conversion it's still worth more than market value and JKs offer the AV for £15 according to others on here

In which case I think it’s a no brainier and will get it included! Thanks for the advice:)

With LV for 3 years. Last year £492.

Renewal £692! Arrived two days after the email explaining about the price rises.

Everywhere else £800+

Went direct to LV in a private browser window, different email, £522!! WTAF!

I thought they weren't allowed to offer less to new customers!

Regardless, I'll take it.

The age old question, did you get an AV?

Where is everyone insuring these days.
I used One Call this year.
1st year I got my Brand New Sportline. Admiral was the cheapest then on renewal jumped to £1209.
Went on go compare and One Call came up with £423 with more stuff included like European breakdown.
Took that like a champ!!

No, but put in a realistic replacement figure as the valuation.
@CAB You want to be careful of that a few companies I tried asked value of vehicle
Say 35k and gave me a quote
I queried what would happen if wrote off and would only pay market value of the base van say 18k

Be very careful mate - the value you provide them means absolutely nothing when it comes to paying out for a total loss. There are 2 types of policy - Agreed Value and Market Value - and with the latter you will only get what the insurer deems is market value for your van regardless of the value you provide them (and, if you don't have a specialist campervan policy, the insurer will only consider the value of the base van, not the conversion).

Just received my renewal invitation from Comfort Insurance.

Last year I paid £522, this year they want £603. That's an increase of 15%, which doesn't seem too bad given some reports on here. I will, however, need to up the annual mileage limit from the current 6k, so, doubt, it will increase further.

Annoyingly, they issued the invitation only 18 days before renewal date, which already means I'm outside the 20-26 days window that's considered sweet-spot for getting quotations from other providers. :(

@Bav Is that with AV or is AV on top

Can anyone recall off the top of their head, which insurance company is it that gives a discount for mentioning the T6 Forum?
