Thank you. I know it’s down to preference but what would you advise?
If you want built in nav, the 9190 is by far the best unit on the market, if apple CarPlay/android auto is all that you need the 9720 with its 10.1 HD screen is impressive but large , 8019/20 are the best sellers

I recently bought a van with the DNX518VDABS. I regularly get a 'bong' type noise from the unit (over the speakers) and I cannot figure out what it is. I get it more when my iPhone is connected via bluetooth rather than the cable. I can't seem to figure out what it is, at first i thought it might be something like an annunciation of auto re-tune of the radio or something but i don't think it is that. Has anyone any ideas as it is super annoying. Thanks in advance

I purchased a DNX518VDABS as i was advise it had wireless carplay.... After installing it doesn't!
Hopefully my VW dealer will take it back...

Either way i need to replace it as wireless carplay is a must have for me and has been from day one of the van project.

Looks like Kenwood Dmx 8019 or Dnx9190dabs are the only ones that offer what I need?

Really annoyed at the situation!
Hi Mike

I hope you dont mind me asking but im having problems setting up my 518vdabs - can you confirm that it has 'wired apple car play ? many thanks Tim

I'm still loving my DNX9190DABS from Absolut5 for what it's worth.

Only question if anyone can help - when I'm using built in sat nav I like to mute the voice guidance until I'm on unfamiliar roads but I can't see a quick and easy mute button.
I can go through multiple menus to get to the Nav volume and click it down to zero but ideally would like to mute on/off with a button press as required.
Anybody found if there's a mute facility for the nav instructions? Think it's a pretty normal feature?
Thanks.

No idea on your unit, but most I've used you whack the volume down when she/he is speaking?

Yes I can do that ok but the music still mutes at every instruction (even if it's at volume 0).
Also, it takes a couple of instructions to get to zero as the volume adjust only works while it's speaking.

Looking for a way to turn the voice instructions off until I need them.

Thanks for the replies. The Nav setup audio page allows me to select which speakers mute music to allow instructions (FL FR Front All) and the instruction volume.

The mute button doesn't do anything - think maybe it's for vans with only 2 speakers?

For now I'm just turning the vol down and accepting the music keeps going quiet when the instructions are being spoken, albeit at volume 1.

Can't recommend the upgrade enough - had an RNS315 before but now use apple maps (good for live traffic), spotify, voice messaging plus now got reversing camera too.

Kenwood DMX 9720xds And the vss wire help do you need to connect it and if so where or is there a software up date to bypass it

I have read with interest the diversity of problems in the threads. Before the conversion of my T6 the company doing the conversion took it to VW for the Kenwood upgrade. I have now taken delivery (14 weeks and delighted) All seems to be but while I can hear callers they cannot hear me. VW of course say why have I taken so long to report this? I tell them I have just received the van!
Before I get belligerent with them has anyone with a similar problem found the answer? I am connecting an Iphone 6 by bluetooth and USB but neither method makes any difference.
hi , I've just had this head unit fitted to my T5 GP and having exactly same issues ! What was the problem ? Did you get it resolved ?
many thanks jon

Old thread revival time. Anyone have any ideas why my 518VDABS doesn’t have Apple Car Play plus associated apps icons as per photos and YouTube videos I see on the web? It’s running the latest firmware, I checked this again by downloading the files from Kenwood but it didn’t initiate any changes. I’m expecting to Waze, BBC Sounds, WhatsApp etc. but nothing there.

So plugging in your iPhone into any of the 2 usb sockets does not bring up CarPlay ?

Plugging into a USB allows me to click on the iPod icon on the menu screen to play music off the iPhone 13, but I don t get any other car play icons as I see on the web etc. I’m hoping it’s user error or an easy set up fix.

On an additional side note, I’ve still not got the OEM rear view camera to work either. Apparently there is no power at camera end. Not sure if related or not. Thought I’d mention it just in case.

How many usb sockets do you have ?

check they are pushed all the way home behind the headunit .

The Oe camera requires a adapter for it to work with a aftermarket headunit, we keep them in stock..

Thanks. Will check usbs again. Should I see the CarPlay icons only when the phone is plugged in correctly?

This adapter for the camera? I have it and no image on the screen. Just a black screen when in reverse or parking sensors.

The icons only light up when plugged in.

send some pictures of the screen

yes that’s the adapter, slots into the vehicles qualdock . The pins line up under the speaker connections
