Kiravans double passenger swivel

Does anyone else notice that every time their swivel is turned ( once the monumental task is achieved) it’s slicing thin sheets of plastic off the plastic sheet between the swivel and base or is it that mines faulty ?..
It’s not a major issue but it’s annoying and messy and just seems to be a design fault .

Not happening on mine. Is there adjustment on it? Sounds like some bolts may not be tightened correctly allowing the seat to "tip" and dig in perhaps? Try some silicone spray? It's a very heath robinson design and there are better swivels out there now.

Ours doesn’t do that. Is there a sharp edge somewhere?

Pete

Ok thanks guys I will take it apart and see what’s happening it’s a mixture of a slight tipping as it turns and a sharp edge I think
the slices are paper thin but it’s consistant I expected it to just stop after a while but it happens every time it’s swivelled .

Hi there am new to forum not long had van either. I noticed your post about the chair causing damage when turning it.I had the exact same problem so I contacted kiravan with pictures of the swivel plate
It turned out unknown to me a rivet had burst on swivel plate thus not holding plate or chair in correct position when turning.
Managed to get a screw into where rivet had been .
Failing that would be to stick the white plastic plate in (gorilla double sided tape) place so it doesn't move and your chair would turn smoothly
I was the same as yourself struggling to get chair turned what a difference since it's been fixed

That’s great .. if it could just turn easily it would be so much nicer ... I’ve worked out exactly how to turn without banging into too many things ...!!! Phew ... but it does get caught as I get to the last stage of turning ..as it is cutting into the plastic plate

Hi also put van in gear and take handbrake off it lets chair turn easier.
The 4 bolts on base screw up then there's a catch to keep them up while turning chair.
These are all things I wasn't told and was struggling like yourself and done damage as well.
It's so easy to do when working properly

Thanks yes I have no problem with the basic understanding of how to use it .. it’s just this business about the plastic being cut as it swivels .. it’s nothing to do with the bolts .. yes they can slip down and get caught up if you are not aware of what your doing I understand that completely..

I’ve got the same swivel base and it‘s definitely not salami slicing as described. There’s obviously something wrong that needs to be sorted, preferably before the plastic runs out. Once into gear and handbrake off, I find that swivelling is a doddle also.

I note that you say that the Kiravans Double Seat Swivel is no longer the best out there. What are the better options ?
The VanKraft one (all £750+VAT of it) is not available as there are manufacturing difficulties apparently.
Any advice gratefully received before I splash the cash, particularly in these times when we cannot go out and look at and try out the options.

Sorry bud, it was one that I saw in another T6. It was a conversion that someone had done for them. It didn't have any stickers on, but it rotated easily and smoothly- felt like bearings.

Thanks anyway. Worth asking in case you knew.
MS Craft swivel on rails looks pretty neat, apart from the fact that it has 2x internal bolts to remove to swivel it.

I've got to say that I've stuck with my double passenger seat because the amount of much valued extra storage that it gives in the camper. I'm glad I've got a Kiravans base as I reckon it would be a real pain in the aris to empty the seat every time you wanted to swivel it as would be required with the MsCraft jobbie above. Mind you, I do like the upholstery in that video!

My second replacement Kiravans double swivel is doing the same thing as the first one basically slicing through the plastic every time it’s returned to front facing .
Turning it to face the rear does not seem to be a problem but as it is turned back to normal orientation I see it’s started slicing the plastic yet again .. I’ve tried spraying with silicon .. has no real benefit . It’s somehow tipping as it turns and the edge of the metal base takes slices and sometimes chunks out of the plastic sheet .. it’s really annoying .. I’ve tried everything to stop it I turn it really slowly trying to watch for what position may avoid this slicing action from happening .. but it’s no good as soon as it’s used regularly the problem starts to happen .. seems it’s a gimmic at best .. used once in a while it’s fine but regular use seems to result in the same issue .. it’s very annoying

its easy to get to the screws on the Craft just put your things in a box and lift it out. you only use them forward facing when driving... but we only keep shoes and trainers in the double base . the bonus's of a Craft is it gives a base to the chair stand and it comes back to the sliding door you can sit looking out the side door and you leave your handbrake on it also has great clearance of the plugs under the floor it wont squash them. im very pleased with my craft swivel

Hi I actually used mines on Monday first time in a long time. The problem I had was a rivet holding the white plastic plate in place had snapped so when turning chair the base plate was moving as well which is not meant to happen as the seat is meant to slide round on that plate .
I find it's still pretty tight to turn round but if you take your time you won't cause damage☹️

I have exactly the same damage on my van .. seems the Kiravan double passenger swivel is a bit of a sod .. it’s either damaging the rest of the van one way or another or it’s eating into its own base every time it’s swivelled .. I think another factor is if you are on a slope when you turn it the weight of the thing becomes un balanced and it’s a good few percent more likely it will catch on something and cause wear and tear very easily ... having said that I use mine a lot and would hate to not be able to rotate that passenger seat

I’ve got the Kirivans swivel fitted and mine also does the salami slice. I replaced bolts etc and when I spoke to kirivans about it they told me they all do that...

Yep it’s very annoying once it starts it just gets progressively worse . Mine was replaced and at first the new one behaved perfectly really easy to swivel and no plastic salami but sure enough once I started to enjoy using it more often the whole thing started again .. also the bolts start to do the same old problem of the nut not turning as you attempt to undo the bolts and find you have to wind it back up so it’s in the correct position . It’s basic design flaws they need to correct . I’m still investigating my theory that it swivels worse when on a slope .. where I live I’m often not parked on flat surfaces and it’s more awkward to swivel it when on a slope .

Just bought an Ms Craft base having it fitted on the 10th - there will be a Kirivans base on eBay after that date. Given all the changes I have made to the van I do love eBay.
