Looking at the base it seems pretty obvious that the edge that slides over the plastic when Turning back to normal orientation needs to be rounded off a little .
It’s just a very sharp edge and once it starts to cut into the plastic it then becomes pitted with gouges and the edge simply keeps catching them over and over again slicing into it .. in theory if that edge was filed to be smoother and rounder the slicing would not be happening .. I will give it a go and report back . One things for sure all the silicon spray in the world will not stop the problem

Ok anyone with the slicing problem , this will help ..
file this edge off and round it smooth . Finish off with some steel wool and Emery paper .Right up to the rounded corner and the edge will stop digging into the plastic .. recommended to do this before you use the swivel if you get a new one .. my second one was fine at first and I was very careful watching to see if this problem would re occur and despite that, before I noticed it ,it was already starting to get bad again .. thankfully this works and should give long life to this effective but hastily factory produced swivel base .. a little human attention in the production line would be nice rather than getting your customers to fix a product to work correctly !
