Kombi Seat Bracket Removal?

My experience was as above. I have small hands so just managed to squeeze through without messing with the brake cable. It took me hours my advice just take everything off and get at them. The fuel tank just needs lowering and is straightforward. The less fuel the better near empty will make life easier. I used 10mm threads to support tank.

basically the 4 brackets for the 3 seater being located in the middle of the floor makes them harder imo to get at.

Very useful/intersting thread....my post from the weekend very much related to this.

I am wanting to either:
a) reverse direction of the rear 3 seat bench, hence taking out brackets and rotating by 180degs.
or
b) rotate the brackets and replace the 3 seat bench with a 1 seat - which I assume has same spacing between the legs.

Wil be using the rear of kombi as a mobile office.
Any comments on feasibilty are welcome!

If you look in this thread, the brackets look symmetrical, as though they can be reversed and looking at the bare floors you can see the dimples where they sit. Not sure on spacing of triple/single, but could be measured. I have triple (as do you) so can't give dims of single.

Removed brackets today from 3 seat bench. Only 4 brackets, but I reckon harder to get to than 2+1. The passenger side was OK - plastic shields off, lower tank and they are fairly accessible. Rear drivers side wasn't too bad - undo exhaust mounts to drop it a little, loosen heat shield and plastic guards. Needed to bend the heat shield a bit, but it bends back. The front drivers side are right above the big exhaust box, so you'd need to drop exhaust and remove heat shields. I measured and located them, using a torch and looking through holes in the heat shield, then cut the shield to enlarge existing holes allowing spanner in. Awkward. Heat shield bent back into place. A dirty job, but all out now and 6mm ply batons bonded in ready for 12mm floor and Altro tomorrow.

So I’ve got 2 of the 4 brackets out. By lowering the tanks on the threads. The remaining two sit directly above the exhaust I’ve removed the plastic along the sil and part of the heat shield but I can’t get to it without moving the exhaust and unhook brake cables. I’m wondering if to drill a hole in the heat sheiks! How easy is it to drop/remove exhaust?
@phoenixfc7 Is it the four brackets under the single seat that are above the diesel tank ?

A couple of those are, but the treaded nuts there are fixed in place. Or at least they should be - mine weren't and either landed on the plastic undertray, or sat on the tank until I dropped it to fit a heater. Some of the brackets for the rear passenger seats are above the tank too.

Ok thanks I have a double seat and a single seat in the rear and will be removing all of them eventually. I need to leave the double in for a bit longer. I am thinking of having a diesel heater fitted and while the tank was down I was going to ask the installer to remove the brackets if it was the single one so that I don't have to drop the tank again.

I think you'll find the double seat needs the tank lowered a bit too. Mine was a triple bench seat, so fairly central brackets. You don't need to lower it by much to be honest. I found the ones hidden behind the exhaust heat shield harder to get to.

FYI guys 'n' gals, my 2019 Shuttle uses 7H0 803 333 (nearside) and 7H0 803 334 (offside) sub-floor strengthening brackets for the outside back floor mountings of the single seat configuration of the rearmost (2nd rear seat, ie bench seat) row. I have yet to identify the front legs' reinforcing brackets but will post when I've removed the covers.

Is there any technique to getting the tank to actually lower down. Mine seems to be stuck. The tank straps are off, the filler neck is free of it’s mounts but the filler neck end doesn’t want to lower down. Currently the rear wheel end is free and the filler neck end is down by a few inches. I can’t see what might be holding it up. The fuel lines don’t appear to be stopping it currently. Help!

Thanks.
