Kombi sleeping platform - DIY

Thanks for the feedback, if you have any more pics of the fittings it would be appreciated. Also did you make the cross members on the bed panel out of the same ply or other .?

The cross members of the bed panel are 2”x1” ali box section sandwiched between tulip wood and or in places birch ply. If I did it again I’d use 2”x 3mm Ali flat bar. Bit like a flitch beam. Less weight and should still stop any deflection.

The riv nuts are hidden from view, but there are plenty of good places in the inner skin of the van to fit them.

Hope that helps

Thanks for that...

Really inspiring work. Thanks for sharing. @cleave14 a few questions:
  1. What rivet nuts did you use? I worry about vibration transfer. Any advice?
  2. Would you mind sharing a few photos of the inner construction of your side elements?
Many thanks. Marko

I’ve finally finished laminating the last bits of ply to extend the rear platform into a bed/ loading area. I use the van for work and camping so wanted the fit out to be versatile and the platform load bearing though I do think I over engineered this a bit. The drawer is fantastic.

Hi Kevin, not sure if the poster is still on here but there are lots of companies that sell something similar.
