The latest crisis is averted!
They say its always worth looking at an issue from a different perspective.
So rather than attempt to push the table over the bottom slot from face on, I first aligned it as I always did from face on.
But I then stepped outside and pushed the near side of the table over the bottom slot with little difficulty, the far side of the table slotted down too.
I now have the table at the lowest point of the bottom slot with the full 5mm of grip. No catch/clasp or sandpaper needed!
