For my case DSG (wet version) is reliable. I owned 3 cars (Touran) with DSG6 and never had a problems. The DSG version is DQ250
I owned 3 cars for 10 years and have done 180 000 km with them
The one thing you should care is the oil change every 60 000 km (DQ250 version) or every 4 years (for people who don't reach 60 000 km)
Of course benefits are far higher than disadvantages but in rare situations, DSG is a little "weird"
When the car is on a soft ground (like sand and grass) especially near the beach... you may be stuck because the engine is turning at 2000-2500 rpm but nothing happens. I had to ask to my children to push the car.
Soft ground
Once wheels are turning a little bit like half turn the clucth detects the movement and engaged. The car need just a little impulse to be stuck off
Driving on Snow
Older touran versions have a winter switch which limits the torque and throttle especially when you live the parking. I don't know how electronics and software responds for cars without this switch.
Car fully load (less anoying)
With the gear lever drive in (D) mode, D mode is so economic that the car spends his time with gear change (gear up, gear down) especially when you drive on small campain roads with small varied terrain
With the gear lever drive in (S) like sport position is too harsh that the car shift up at 4000 rpm and shift down too early
Of course we can use the full sequential mode using shift lever but It would be useful to have just one drive mode with an auxiliary switch which has six positions (Postion 1 is D mode and position 6 is sport) like fitted on BMW M SMG
For me the natural movement is when i want to pass from 4 --> 5 i should pull the lever and when i want to pass from 5 to 4, i should push the lever but if you take a look, the method is opposite to my natural feeling
Fortunately i have steering whell fitted with shift paddles on my old touran but I don't know if the T6 could have this option
For information i never owned a T6 with DSG , may be the T6 behaviour won't be the same and sorry for this long post
My T6 is a manual because
- the children begin accompanied practice and when the pass the licence driving, they will be tested with a manual gearboxe
- i can't afford a DSG. Compared to the Touran, the T6 is really expensive
