Lowering without the ride being too hard

Hi New to the VW transporter. I have just ordered a 6.1 TDI450 4 motion LWB in Australia.
I also want to lower it 40mm on 18" wheels. I think I will go for the Bilsteine B14 Comfort but I dont know what front struts
it has .(bolt on or clamp on) Can anyone help and do you think this combo will give a good ride and still be able to tow a trailer when needed?

Firstly is the Comfort kit available in Aus . If it isnt and you want to import one please check to make sure it will be accepted by the authorities and can be used with out getting import clearance , many countries in Europe dont allow things like this to be imported unless they have safety clearance done by the importer usually . The most common safety clearance in Europe is TUV , ( not recognised in UK but it is used by many European countries ) . I do get asked by many people to send kits overseas but i always check with the manufacturers before sending to make sure there are no shocks ( excuse the pun ) on arrival . there are plenty kits available in Aus that will be type approved and we can advise you what to look for , Also if there is a failure you deal with a local company and not have to stress to get parts from europe .

Probably the easiest way to see which kit it is is to look at the lower front shock mount , if the 2 bolts are on the wheel side its T32 and bolt on , if the 2 bolts are at the back of the shock its a T 30 or T 28 and its the clamp on type

Hi @Richard Etches, I totally agree with both @Jayjmac and @ChrisR.... you’ll need some upgraded shocks if you go with the lowering springs.... I’m on 40mm H&R springs with standard shocks at the minute and it’s not great! I’ve already been in touch with Steve @CRS Performance for the shock upgrade.... he’s the expert, but is waiting on supply of the shocks.
Was the 40mm lowering springs with original shocks any worse than the standard springs and shocks please ?.

Sorry Toby I couldn’t tell you mate…. when I bought my van it had the lowering springs fitted. There was nothing wrong with the springs (H&R), they just didn’t pair up well with the standard shocks.
