Hi there,

ok so i've been trying to find time to do this, and i have finally managed to get the front bumper changed with the fogs etc with the help of @Pauly amongst others..!

I've got a potential window tomorrow night.. or sat am v early.

I just went to the van to check everything out again, and i got to the bcm and to find pin 17 on the white plug... can anyone point me in the direction of how to find it?!
I can see easily 1-16, then if i try to slide the plug apart i think i can see 35-37?? but tbh i cant see how the thing splits apart fully :(

This got me thinking - the loom that i have from vagnostics is two cables, 3 pin connectors.

1 from pin 9 on steering wheel module to the light switch 12v
1 from pin 10 on steering wheel module to the famous pin 17...

So the 9 and 10 are plug and play - the light switch is a crimp fitting or solder.. this leaves pin 17 - will it be empty so i can just plug and play again? or am missing sth?

@Deaky do you remember by any chance? Pauly - do you know? or anyone else?!

Thanks a million..this'll be my last mod for a long time!!

edit: i think i've just found it on a pic pauly sent me...its right at the other end from 16.. b**ger.. i dont know about a RHD but the LHD bcm's area pain to get to, even removing the both of them there is zero slack..

The very first mod I did when I got the van last spring involved getting into the BCM and I can assure you getting to it on a rhd van is also a royal b*st*rd of a job  :D

just trying to find a way to get more space and i found this:

worth doing? or do you guys reckon that its possible to get a soldering iron up in there?! I was hoping to use crimp connectors but im not sure the pliers will fit up there its so cramped.

im going to take another look tonight, and see if i can convince myself that i can do it..

@Pauly i was thinking of using one of those inline connectors that you crimp both ends - this ok or better to solder and heatshrink?

You have to unplug it anyway so dropping it out the way will help and make viewing/working easier

Folks, I'm in the process of retrofitting a MFSW, purchased from Vagnostics. I have managed to speak to them once only for advice - since then no response to voicemails, calls or texts and I've hit a hurdle I'm hoping one of you can shed some light on.
The instruction sheet supplied by Vagnostics is only mildly explanatory, certainly to me as a complete novice anyway. I eventually found the video you've linked to above to get at the control module and after playing with the innards of the white connector for several minutes, discovered it is in 2 parts that slide apart with some force. There-in hides the elusive pin 17 BUT there's a wire plugged in there already! I assumed that because one of the supplied wires that came with the steering wheel had a "plug" on both ends, there would be a gap at pin 17 like there is at 9 and 10. Sadly there wasn't so I did some more searching and found this guide: https://carsystems.home.pl/marcin/support/VW_T5_MSW.pdf
This suggests you need to join the wire from 10 to the wire going into 17 but the double plug is making me doubt those instructions. @scotia did you work out what to do by any chance? I've assumed the free ended wire is to join into the live feed via whatever means (soldering most likely.)
Any and all help very gratefully received. Having read some online reviews about Vagnostics I'm not holding out much hope of assistance from them but at least I've actually received the goods I ordered and paid for. Several others don't seem to have been so lucky.......

Hi there, sorry i didnt see this yesterday.. yes indeed you are right. the free end is for the 12v light supply at the light switch.

the other end has a pin on it incase you dont have for ex. electric windows.. then you could plug and play.. but as you have a wire (green?) in there you need to splice into it. I ended up not soldering for the moment - lack of a holding tool - and used a crimp connector.

i am actually going to finish this job off today i hope - the other day i took time off work to finish and the pin that goes in 9 & 10 - one of them broke leaving me stranded!

that and young family, crap weather etc and i havent been able to get back to it...will resolve that this pm i am determined!

Success! froze my ass off in the van doing this tonight - but managed.. ouf.. thats to all for the help! working mfsw now :) and fog lights too... im done for the mods!

Thanks for the info in this thread guys (and thanks for the previous help @scotia ).

I’ve not done this yet but have the cables etc. Thinking of doing it in 2 stages. Stage 1 everything apart from BCM connection, then stage 2 BCM connection.

My thinking is that stage 1 seems easy enough and then I could give myself a full day for stage 2 but would ideally have the van useable in between

Just wanted to ask, if I do stage 1 am I ok to put the steering wheel and shrouds back on again or are they best being off for stage 2? (I would first feed the cable down towards the BCM)

Hhmmm this is going back a bit.. a lot has happened since i did this mod.. How long are you going to leave in between the stages? I honestly dont remember how long i left it between the stages but if you cable into the steering wheel and leave them hanging near the BCM you should be fine i think, then attack the BCM..

I did struggle with the steering wheel bit - i cant rmember where but i do remember thinking bits were going to break instead of coming apart so o give yourself enough time..

sorry to not be any use..

No worries. I’ll set myself a full day for it to try and complete it all but was just wondering if I could have a bail out point if it got too stressful :)

you should be fine. the parts do come apart its just a bit of a pain in the rear sometimes.. i always seem to over run these "little" mods by an hour or so... :) careful with the repair wires - thats what broke on me i seem to remember.. had to get the vw garage to order one for me quick sharp..
