MFSW Works Then Doesnt

Back in July I fitted my MFWS, a great upgrade from the plastic T28 S-LINE. I didnt get everything working, however I was happy with vol up/down and next/back tracks.

Fast forward to November and I was doing the winter prep and no horn, no MFSW functions...
Troubleshooting I have done so far...

1. Continuity to the black cable at the back of the light switch - CHECK
2. Voltage from the black cable from the light switch - GETTING 14.62v
3. Removed the horn/airbag and looked for any damaged cables - NOTHING OBVIOUS

Any ideas on where next to check - voltage or continuity?

I think your problems are coming from your van being an earlier EURO5 T6.
CJW has a EURO5 and used a steering wheel and buttons from a polo and got everything working. Is it the same procedure to wire up?
I’m pretty sure the wiring for ccs will be the same but might be your EURO6 buttons.
If that’s the case you will sell your buttons no problem and be able to pick up polo ones easily.

The frustrating thing is that the horn did work, and now does not.
I have my MOT to do, and just want to get back on the road, while I sort this out.

Have you verified that the horn itself works - also the fuse SC11.
Do you have VCDS or OBDeleven - could sound the horn directly through the software?

I'll check the horn and fuse next.

The fact that the volume up/down stopped working as well makes me think it is not the actual horn, but will go though things systematically.

My mechanic has VCDs. I didn't know you could honk via software.

Hey, check your coding to make sure it has not reverted back for any reason.

There is something in the back of my mind that this happened on my mates T5.1 when the battery went completely flat. The fact you have lost everything sounds like it has lost the coding.

Have you had a flat battery recently or had it disconnected?

Use a small pin wire and insert it into pin 36 - this attaches to GREY PLUG PIN 10

This is what I’m not sure about.
The guide was followed for adding a MFSW for a EURO6 T6 not a EURO5.
That’s why I tagged @CJW as I know he has done this on his EURO5

Looking back at my notes, there should be a white / grey wire from the coil spring to the BCM that connects to location 36. I can’t remember if my note above meant that I had to make a cable. Sorry I can’t be more use.

What vehicle and year is the MFSW from? Doesn’t look like the right wheel for a EUR5 to me.

Ran some checks today and got two different codes





I checked all the codes and they were in place. Still no working horn or MFSW volume up/down.
