I have the correct MFSW with the CNL button and plan on fitting it to a 2017 Startline……when I get time. If I was to fit it now with my existing airbag and airbag loom will the airbag function as it should? Obviously non of the buttons will. I am hoping that if I fit it and it’s staring me in the face every day it’ll gee me up to wire it up

Yes it will work. You’re just changing a buttonless wheel for one with unwired buttons. I assume your new wheel has two airbag prongs?
