Multifunction steering wheel check if wiring is done

Hello all,

I bought my T6 with a flat bottom multifunction steering wheel installed but the buttons don't work.

The guy I bought it off said the wiring was done and just needed coding. However there are a couple of things he may not have been 100% telling the truth about.

What is the easiest way to check if the wiring has been done? Is there a bit of dash or trim I can look through to see if the wires are there without going through the full process?

Is this a picture of your actual van? If so no amount of coding will make this wheel work. Its from a golf. A different base platform for wiring (golf is MBQ a T6 is PQ). You would need to find replacement buttons for it from a PQ platform vehicle. Or a complete wheel from a PQ platform vehicle.

It is. Oh dear. He told me it was the Polo GTI one that works and he bought it as it was a compatible one! Sounds like he may have spun me a story...

Is the part number easily accessible to check?

Actually, i may be wrong, if it is from a polo gti it should be able to be coded. At a glance it looked like a golf one. Do you have VCDS?

I don't unfortunately only Carista.

I am doubtful of what this guy said though hence my desire to check.

If the wiring is done will it be obvious in VCDS? The horn works fine and no air bag warning comes on. Come to think of it if it has been wired in correctly would the button lights be on even if not coded?

You could take off the plastic cowling around the column/stalks to see if there are extra wires run. Depending how thorough a job he has done they may be just strapped to the existing loom and visible. Only one will be run to the BCM, pin 32 of the white 73pin plug.
I have no idea how carista works. But if you did have vcds you could scan and log the current coding, then code it for mfsw and see if it works, if not just revert to the previous coding.

Do the buttons illuminate when the lights come on they should do even if coding isn't done

Just asked my wife who has it at the moment and apparently no they do not.

I'm guessing this means it's not been wired with the addition wires then.
