Hi all…

Keen to buy a T6, have one issue I don’t do more than 30 miles a week / all at 30 miles an hour if I’m lucky so I’m trying to avoid the pitfalls of Adblue - my father has just got shot of an Amarok as he had so many issues with Adblue (he was doing less miles than me) of course occasionally I will use the van for long runs but I’m concerned this may not be enough to stop the DPF filter causing issues… I would prefer a Euro 6 vehicle for when we visit the kids both of which are in clean air zones … Any thoughts / experiences on this would be greatly appreciated…

It not AdBlue that'll be your problem, it'll be the DPF...and it almost certainly will with that type of motoring. Your Dad may well have suffered AB issues but that is almost certainly due to a fault rather than mileage.

I'd buy and old knacker of a car for £500 (or even a bicycle) and use that for the weekly low mileage work and keep the van for the holidays or longer trips.

Probably depends on how that 30 miles a week is achieved. You sound like you already know. Modern diesels need to stretch their legs and appreciate being driven hard.

I have to do a few very short journeys a week. But then I get in a 100-200 mile motorway journey at least once a month and give it a boot full whenever possible.

The problems are all the usual DPF, EGR clogging. Then add intake manifolds for a T6. Mine has had an EGR and Intake manifold before 90,000 miles - before I bought it. I don’t know exactly how it was driven before but I’m certain it didn’t get as much love as I give it.

If you can’t manage a motorway blast (at least) once a month. I might think a euro 6 diesel is a bad idea.

Thanks for the fast response guys, yes understood, it’s the DpF that worries me.. I would try and give it a blast now and again but my Dad tried the same and still ended up in the dealers 3 or for times before he gave up with it..

Did I read there is a T6 without Adblue / Dpf - like a transitional model..? Or do I look for the best T5 - are any of these Ulez friendly..

Ok TSI sounds good… which model years ran this engine..?
Mines 68 plate, literally ordered the week before you couldn't spec on anymore and was delivered Jan 19. I think only avalible for around a year. 2.0l DSG was 204hp and manual was 150hp. They seem to have become quite desirable but not many around.

There is an early T6 euro 5 pre ad-blue but isn’t ulez compliant same as early T5
Tsi is obvs petrol so best of both worlds
They didn’t run for long so are pretty rare now but they are out there

Mine is a 2016 T6 without adblue, Vw guy who does the service applauds the euro5 engine over the later one (with adblue) don’t know if anything in that helps, but I don’t do any ULEZ driving currently (although perhaps a problem in future)

Yes i had one great van

I got a 2015 T6 euro5 lwb Kombi five years ago, didn't know anything about ad blue or regens but knowing what I do now i'd make same choice again.

If you can try and give it a 5/10 min blast on a dual carriageway once a week when the van is at full temp you will have no issues.

Welcome BTW
