Newby with a camper

Hi everyone, just posting to say hello! I've got a 2017 Startline that's been professionally converted into a camper, which we've recently taken out on a trip for the first time. Thought it was only polite to say hello before posting the inevitable questions about error codes! Also happy to share any tips or learn from others about camper life etc

New camper with error codes.....go on then.
Hi! Well, These are the ones I'm wondering about: P20ee00 catalyst efficiency ; P040100 exhaust EGR flow insufficient.
It went into MOT fine but with a warning light (solid orange engine block). Garage reset everything and asked me to see how it went. We went up to the Lakes and it came on again on the way back. Got it booked in at a different place to sort, along with dreaded timing belt/pump job.

Those error codes are classic for a pointer for the software update to adjust the adblue system. A VW dealer should do this, hopefully for free and give you a voucher for some free adblue refills as compensation.

That's good to know, thanks for that.

Update on the above: P040100 exhaust EGR flow insufficient turns out to be the EGR Cooler apparently. Best part of a grand I'm told. Good job I've not just shelled out to replace the timing belt too...no wait...

No, from reputable local VW specialist who actually came out £200 cheaper than my usual garage for the belt job. Seems high though. Going to pick it up shortly so will get some more info on it. Certainly not getting it done without finding out more. Especially if a flush may sort!

Picked it up yesterday. Garage said that they "don't do" flushes on the coolers, not that it couldn't be done. Thoughts?

Had the same error codes on our van before Christmas @Brodskibeat. The EGR cooler had previously been flushed at the local VW Centre, but only lasted about 4,000 miles before this happened again.

I now use a VW-trained Indy, and they also said that they don’t recommend doing flushes as it is a waste of money and would only delay the inevitable. I went for a new EGR and cooler, and front and back pipes too (both turned out to have split, another common problem).

From reading about others’ experiences on here, it seems that VW Commercial insist on doing a couple of flushes before they will change the EGR, either under warranty or as ‘good will’ out of warranty in some cases apparently. You might want to speak to your local van centre first, nothing to lose!

Cheers for the reply @Noddy996. Can totally see why they wouldn't recommend them, but having just forked out, I'd be happy to get 4000 miles or so out of mine, as it's mainly a leisure vehicle we wouldn't use a lot. Can also see why the dealers do flushes first, as it delays them spending a lot on expensive repairs. (Apparently, the garage I used does loads of replacements). Will certainly check up as you say. Thanks!

After lots of independent garage quotes, calls to the dealer and speaking to seemingly every department, £1,150 inc VAT is the cheapest I can find for an EGR cooler replacement. Only the dealer with do the flush, and that's £450 inc VAT. Various van drivers and diesel owners have advised me that they've cured the problem by tanking it down the motorway in third. Anyone have any experience of that?
