Apologies if been discussed before.
So I’ve insured my t6 t32 swb kombi got business use .
Had to start with 0 no claims ouch lol .

I’ve a car with 23 years ncb on which I’m about to sell.
Can I use the no claims from there on my van.
Looking online some say yes I can yet I have friends saying no

I've transferred NCB in the past. Years ago though, not sure whether you still can

I insured with Caravan Guard and they let me transfer car NCD - had to provide evidence from car insurer I had it.

All depends on the insurance company. If you accrued your existing no claims on a private vehicle i.e. no business use, some will allow you to transfer, some won't. The same goes if the new vehicle is insured under a business name, but your no claims is held in your own name. It's a case of searching for a cooperative insurance company. When I started my business 30 odd years ago, I had to start from scratch on the van, even though I had full NCB on my own car. But when I retired & closed the business, the insurance company allowed me to transfer the NCB I had earned as a business user over to my now private van.

You'll struggle to find any insurer that will take your NCD for personal use over to business use as they're 2 totally different types of insurance and risk.

Thanks . I trade under my own name . I’m a painter

Don't confuse "a private vehicle insured for business use" with "a company vehicle insured by a business for an employee". Almost all insurers will allow you to transfer NCB from the former to another private vehicle; fewer insurers (but still most) will allow equivalent NCB transfer from the latter in the absence of any other NCB eligibility.

I've had mixed results in the past, some companies are open to it and others are a hard no
I think you would need to spend an hour and contact a couple companies like A plan(howdens now) and brentacre etc

I wasn’t. My situation was a vehicle owned by a limited company with one employee (me). I was the only named driver on the policy, it wasn’t a “any employee” policy. I couldn’t find anyone willing to accept my existing NCB. It was basically only me to drive, but I wasn’t the owner, my company was, even though I was the owner/director/sole employee.

Despite you owning the business and being the only person insured to drive, for insurance purposes that's still considered "a company [owned] vehicle insured by a business for an employee".

Perhaps the OP would like to clarify what they meant by "I’ve insured my t6... got business use". I took it they were referring to "a privately owned vehicle insured for business use", but it is ambiguous.

When I got insured for Jolene a few months back I had to start at zero... I was a bit peeved as I have 18yrs NCB I can't recall why it had to be this way sadly.

As some may be aware I now have windows on my van as well as the other inner linings - Does anyone know if I need to contact Howdens (was A-plan) to tell them of the modification???

If the answer is yes I will ask them about the zero NCB

P.s. I am currently trying to find out about updating them through the forum past posts so don't ZAP me please

I would say 'yes' as its a modification that could affect premium, re-sale, desirability (for buyers and thieves).
I would also notify dvla that you now have a 'van with windows', just send off your V5 with the appropriate field completed

If you're still using the NCB on another vehicle you can't also use it on your van.

Although some insurers will grant you 3 or 4 years on a new policy if you have full NCD tied up elsewhere. Sheila's Wheels did that for Mrs Sasquatch.
Yeah - it's usually called mirroring, but any POB issued will only show true, earned NCB, so you can get 'trapped' with the same insurer. It's a bit of a honey trap, but can work for some.

When she moved on they quoted her the full amount they gifted her on the letter and Hastings were happy to accept it.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Not usually how it works, but, without exception, there are always exceptions... :think smile bounce:
