Non Start - Low fuel Pressure

I Tried to start my van (T6.1 150BHP Manual CXHA engine 22k miles) As soon as I put my key in the ignition the glow plug coil light came on and didn't not go out there was also an error message on MFD saying ACC error. I have had similar messages a few times over the 12 months I have owned it but as soon as I turned vehicle off by key and restarted all was fine.

the other night though the engine kept turning over but would not start. I turned the vehicle off and tried again but the glow plug amber light stayed on but the error message disappeared. After 6 attempts I gave up and got the van recovered.

It has been into a local garage who have fixed some chaffed wires - I have seen a few posts on here regarding this issue, but doing diagnostics tests while trying to start the engine it comes up on there tests as low fuel pressure.

They advised to have the pump and injectors tested. All apparently all came back as fine so it was all reinstalled. Yet it still will not start - again low fuel pressure, they have subsequently changed the fuel pressure sensor and fuel regulator that fit to the fuel rail, and again still low fuel pressure.

They are still saying they believe its the main pump at fault as fuel is coming up to it fine but its just not getting to the pressure it should from there on wards.

Any pointers would be appreciated, as im wondering if it could be a wiring issue - or engine control box issue, could these cause these symptoms, and if it was one of those would a trouble code be stored.

Cheers

How are you getting on with this issue mate? Im
Having intermittent long starting on my van so very keen to know how you resolve this.

Hi
As yet it's still work in progress. I bit the bullet and bought a new high pressure pump as garage working on it still say everything they test points to that. I have my doubts as I think it's probably more a control unit or wiring issue but unfortunately for me no codes are flagging on there diagnostic equipment to suggest that.

If the garage it's at can't solve it I'm taking it to a diesel specialist in the hope they can find the fault.

I sould have bought Type 2 as you can work on them with a basic box of spanners

UPDATE:
New fuel pump fitted and still not starting ....o_O Looks like I need a VW specialist on the job now.

Did you get anywhere with this? I seem to be on the same journey as you and I've had 2 new Injectors and then a week later my van cut out on the M62 and hasn't started since, been told it's the fuel pressure sensor which I'll be trying this weekend

You can see the fuel pressure on Carista Beta Live Data

Yeah, AA mechanic told me Saturday night sensor had gone. This is after a local garage changed two injectors last week. I'm not sure it's the sensor myself as carista is reading ~33000K

I’m no expert on these sensors but if it’s reading 33000Kpa isn’t that within the normal range? Does the pressure vary with load?
The wiring looms aren’t great, worth checking for damage if it’s intermittent.

Thanks
They did say Saturday it was at 200k so it definitely had an issue then. However it won't turn over at all. Thinking of sending it to a specialist if it won't start by Sunday

Hi
No I got so pi55ed off with it being of the road since Feb, it was my daily driver so had to buy a cheap runner in the meantime.
I had specialists look at it, had VW technical remotely connect to it for hours and still no answers as to why it wouldn't fire.

Had fuel pump, pressure regulator and sensors changed as everything was pointing in that direction. Wiring/fuses were checked and readings were I am told all fine.

So I in the end I sold it as a non runner as I had to many family issues to deal with so didn't need the extra stress.

Hope you manage to find and resolve your issues.

Thanks
So I changed the sensor and the OBD code disappeared however it will not start
Spoke to a specialist and need to arrange for it to be towed to them but looking at a 3 week wait, goodbye summer plans.

I'm like you it's my daily driver so not impressed that I can't go anywhere.

Hopefully they find an issue with it as I will be screwed if I sell as a non starter

Just an update for anyone looking at the same issue
HPFP has gone putting metal filings in the system, looking at £6k for new injectors, pump, fuel rail, full flush, new cam belt and water pump belt.
Any ideas on why the pump may have failed at less than 50k miles and 5 years old?

How was this confirmed as the source/issue?

I’m going through this just now with my T5.1 works van.
Got the high pressure fuel pump reconditioned for £600.
Got that fitted and is now hunting.
So getting new pressure regulator and sensor fitted.
All hoses and rail bed. Flushed out.
I’m hoping that’s it. Should get it back tomorrow
My vans done 178k miles at least
