Not liking t6

Shame to hear your not loving your T6 and hope you can come to a resolution that suits your needs, some great suggestions above!

I think the size is often more perspective than fact. As an example at my work the car park security guard used to moan for me for bringing in such a 'large vehicle' when I pointed out (we used to have a good rapport so used to giving each other some stick) that is was pretty much the same size as the Audi A4 that was parked next to it he agreed. looking up the sizes online its almost the same size assuming a SWB T6 (4.904m x 2.297m) vs A4 Saloon (4.72m x 2.022m) but the van just looks so much bigger as its taller and more box shape.

If you have a LWB then it is obviously slightly larger with the extra 400mm length

The driving position is much higher up so also gives the feeling of a much bigger vehicle, I find this a big bonus as it gives much better visibility on the road, especially on motorway when you can see over other cars.

As others have said A pillar handles, lowering and/ or step bars make it much easier to assist getting in and out.

My wife has a Tiguan which you don't think of as a 'big car' however I find manoeuvring the van much easier as the wheels are nearer the front of the vehicle so it turns much better.

The other thing to consider, if you don't already is a reversing camera it makes life so much easier!
I think it’s possibly the not having a rear mirror that scares me about driving it so yes your right a camera would be handy I’ll look into that also when I go to the show I’ll go in the van rather than car then I may get the opportunity to try things out that they are selling. Thank you

I don’t think 100k on a 2017 is particularly high. My 2017 is on 129k, had 95k on when we bought it.
If you’ve only done 200 miles since May then having a proper trip in it might help you get used to it.

No rear view mirror? Do you have a rear window fitted? If so you can easily fit an interior mirror.

@Dav-Tec is only an hour and a half up the road from you. He would be able to sort you out with a reversing camera

I solved the rear view miror issue by putting in a ToGuard 4 k mirror dashcam which has a rear camera. This serves as a rear view mirror and I rely on it a lot. One of the best things I have ever bought for my campervan

Thank you that’s good to know yes we have lovely new windows all fitted and there’s a rubber knob thingy in front windscreen it may have had a mirror previously I don’t know so I’ll look into that. It does have reversing sensors so I think the rear view mirror would be a big help if I’m ever going to drive it. All great advice guys I do appreciate it and admit maybe I’m jumping the gun and not giving it a fair trial and I’ve decided I’ll take my car back from hubby two days a week he can take the camper to work I was scared to bump the mileage too high as he’s 70 miles round trip a day but needs dictate lol. I think that’s a good compromise until the spring as advised then we can have a rethink.

If your steering wheel is in the middle of the road your good to go I like the van position as you gain the higher visibility.
I’m not a suv fan always been estates and vans for work vehicles.
I find any modern van just as easy to drive as a car. Need get more miles under your belt even if it’s just going for short journeys and different environments including the dark etc.

I know the new transit customs come with a “camera” rear view mirror which doesn’t look great on the back door but solves the problem ask any decent audio fitter and they can sort this for you or window in the back and rear view mirror fitted enjoy the van and what it gives and not the negatives.
I often get back in the car and think I wish I was back in the van

If it's any reassurance I've driven a lot of things all the way up to 7.5tonne but there is a difference between driving for a few days and really getting the "zen" with everyday driving.

About 3 months in to having the Caravelle I'd reached the point where I was no longer actively driving but not comfortable; I did find the width in particular difficult to judge and had a few close calls, lost confidence and considered selling the van. In reality it takes up nearly the same roadspace as our XC70, I parked them next to each other to convince my brain, just the van is 20cm wider.

I'd really echo what @Ads_Essex said about getting used to the side mirrors to judge distance, it's what's helped me a lot. So much so that I tend to have the rear view adjusted down to check the kids in the back to make sure I'm regularly using the passenger side.

I also find a lot of it is surface worry, the couple of times I've had a tight squeeze with oncoming traffic in country lanes my instinctive reactions have placed the van much better than I thought I could. That worry eats into the enjoyment but having realised it's mostly worry I find driving the van much better these days.

Think adding rear windows to the back tailgate/barndoors would be a better idea in the short term... but Dav-Tec is good on all kind of mods so I hear!
I have all new tinted privacy windows in the van including the barn door so I can see out no problem but I think a mirror or camera would help if I drive it because I can’t turn my head and body as much as I’d need to, disability. Thank you for suggestion.

Is that where your radio was? I’d like a sat nav too is that what you mean by upgrade. Sorry I’m not too versed on this.
