OEM Headunit Upgrade to Discover Media?

Evening
We have recently bought a 2019 Highline T6 which we love, the only thing missing is Apple CarPlay.
We have the basic head unit, pictured below, and want to upgrade to get Apple CarPlay.

We have rear parking sensors but would like to add front sensors & rear camera in the future so want the head unit to support this and have a multifunction steering wheel which we want to work. We don’t need gps but DAB is essential, we know we can get DAB through our phones but want it through the head unit.

We would like to keep it as standard as possible. I believe the Discover Media head unit does all this but it’s not a straightforward swap?????

Please can someone guide us in the right direction??????

I'm in the same position. I can tell you that I was offered the top end VW one with Apple car play installed for £795+vat on a used van.
Seemed a bit steep to me, so I declined.

RCD330 I have read some stuff about. ~£350 and is VW Golf unit.

Alpine Halo (i think) ~£1000 plus fitting loom.

I've not done too much looking yet, but there is loads of info and knowledgeable people on here.

Absolute5 near Salisbury offer all manner of audio and electrical upgrades.

I've just purchased a nice 2017 highline van. It's got the standard DAB stereo. I really want to have some kind of sat nav/ carplay connectivity. I've already had a quote for supply of an aftermarket unit however, are there any other options? Is it possible to buy a upgraded VW unit which supports the existing parking sensors plus adds the carplay option etc.....?

If it’s capable of having Apple CarPlay activated then get that done and just use google maps or wayz.

If you are wanting a cheap solution then you could do what I did. Get TomTom for your phone, £19 connects via bluetooth to the standard head unit. To hold the phone in place I bought a phone holder that fits it the cup hole in the dash.

Couple this with Spotify on the phone and I can't see me changing the headset now it works that well.

Sorry, I have TomTom on my phone, the sound just plays thorough the van stereo.

Any suggestions for a good aftermarket head unit for this T6 please ?
I need a reversing camera and sat nav, both of which I believe aren’t compatible with this type.
Happy to spend money to not have something cheap from eBay.

Speak to @Absolut5 regarding all things audio/reversing camera and sat nav related. Amongst other things. They upgraded my audio system with speakers, amp and sub. Very knowledgeable. highly recommend.

As in the title - I know a fair few of you T6 owners have got the Discover Media fitted and wondered what you thought of it as a replacement for the basic Colour Composition that I have at the moment. I like the OEM look and there are quite a few unlocked ones out there at a better price (and availability) than the after market stuff from Kenwood or Alpine, particularly if you want native sat nav. I would intend using it with the current OEM speaker set up but probably change them in due course. This is the one that I'm thinking of - any comments / advice much appreciated.

Would anyone be able to advise on part numbers to upgrade composition to discovery.
It is just the main unit and screen that is required? I’m not sure I’d parts are different across the platform. Screen looks the same not sure about main unit. Various sellers on eBay now selling unlocked and fully activated units.

The T6.1 uses quite a rare Mib3 unit not found in the Golf. Think it's from a passat or something. It doesn't have the SD slots or cd player.

Ah I did think this may be the case. Do you know if the displays are different or just the main unit.

Sorry. Not sure on the display. You'd have thought they were the same but will have to hope someone with more info replies.
