Mine went the same age van and engine. Mine had only done 60000 mile . I had flywheel clutch and cylinder replaced cost £1200 but VW wanted £2000 so shop around.

Hi Keeff, 54,000 miles on mine ! Have it booked in for tomorrow with a local firm who specialise in VW . Mech says he will asses DMF and replace if necessary but says Transporters are a bit aggressive with them so be prepared for replacement, saying as others on here have that it makes sense to pay once now and not twice a bit later on. As I intend keeping the van for a good while it makes sense.
