Old solar panel removal

Thanks to the advice previously provided I've now decided on what I want to do with replacing a failed 60w solar panel that's stuck onto the roof. I'm looking at fitting a 200w renology rigid using brackets (corner mounts or z brackets) - partly as they appear to last longer.

Anyway ... the old panel is proving tedious to remove and as I want to fit the new one before Christmas it occurs to me ... do I actually need to remove the old panel? The new one will entirely cover the old one and as I'm planning to use brackets there's no issues with it's position that I can see.

Am I missing something? Might not be the tidiest solution but CamperKing really stuck the old one on really firmly. Short of cutting it off bit by bit with a multi tool I can't see another way. One problem is working in the middle of the roof from a step ladder.

Thoughts please?

No, you don't need your remove, if the new one covers it.

If you're want the old one off, try using the cheese wire method....

Get some fine strind or fishing line, wrap that round a couple of pencils.... Then start sawing away at the adhesive..... It will cut through it quick enough.

The hard bit will be what's left stuck to the roof.

...

Next time look at vinyl wrapping the roof section before bonding the new rigid panel brackets.
