Orange EHU Cable

Hi,

I am wiring my van with the 2.5mm blue arctic cable and am slightly short for one area of the van, is it was ok to use some of the orange 2.5mm EHU cable instead as I have a length of it? It will be run through trunking as well so shouldn't be in contact with the van shell on any corners etc.

Any advice welcome as this is my first time doing all this and I am a Youtube taught 'expert' haha

Thanks, Steve

Thanks for the reply  , I have just gone and checked the orange cable and its actually only 1.5mm so think i'll order some more blue arctic cable after all haha

So is 2.5mm Arctic cable or orange 2.5mm ehu cable both suitable for the ehu wiring? Am going to be routing cable from the SB area to under the drivers seat area at some point soon and want to put a cable in for ehu and am wondering what to buy

There is nothing magic about "Arctic" cable, it just remains flexible at lower temperatures. If bought from a quality source nothing wrong with it but beware lots of chancers selling blue coloured crappy cable at inflated prices.

As fixed wiring doesn't really need to be coiled and uncoiled a lot you can also consider other potentially cheaper heavy duty cable - the classic "pond cable" (cable code 3183P ) with a tough outer jacket might be a good choice.

This^^^^^
Not all "arctic" cables are born equal. True arctic cable is difficult to source & not cheap. "Arctic" has become a generic term for outdoor PVC cable of varying quality. Personally I use HO7RN-f cable for my EHU needs, way superior to what is sold today as Arctic.

Thanks both for this. I will grab some 2.5mm of not specically arctic cable base on your recommendations. Does the below from CEF look too cheap?

There’s a uk company called Tough leads, they make up EHU leads to order, using the proper artic type cable, I brought a 25M lead from them, it’s very flexible, like a silicone rubber and coils up so easy, but costs 3 times more than a standard lead, we are planning a trip to Sweden/Finland next winter so will test it out IMG_0009.jpeg

I have a couple of heavy duty extensions from Tough Leads, I'd certainly recommend them, not cheap but price is reasonable for the quality of the items I have.
